The private sector has recovered, but the government has shed 547K jobs since 2008. That's a lot of government jobs, especially when certain media outlets keep telling us the government is growing out of control

Private sector recovers jobs lost since 2008. Will wage gains follow? - CSMonitor.com

Private-sector jobs, which plummeted in the recession, are at last back to 2008 levels, the Labor Department's jobs report for March shows. But public-sector jobs are down, more people want to work, and average hourly wages haven't budged.

Total US jobs are still well below their early-2008 peak, because the public sector (government) has shed 547,000 jobs over the same period. And population growth means that more Americans want to work. The result is that unemployment remains stubbornly above normal, with 2.8 million more people unemployed today than when the recession began about six years ago.

C'mon now, you know perfectly well that government doesn't create [547,000 jobs]!

As it says in the article, proclaiming that private sector jobs are back to 2008 levels is nothing more than a psychological feat/benchmark. Our population growth warrants a lot more jobs than what we've lost since 2008.

Most of those jobs have been part time.

Until it shrinks up and mostly dies, the government is still a black hole for our wealth no matter how many jobs it sheds.

While I appreciate CSM's somewhat positive spin, the market has not responded well today.

Granted, we are currently overbought. Volatility is now ramping into the close.

That makes no sense at all. So if we let government die, who performs all the necessary tasks all of those local, state, and federal agencies do to keep our cuties, states, and nation running???

Given the data, no one can speak to the QUALITY of jobs

The sectors with the most jobs added were business services with 57,000 jobs added, as well as health care and construction which gained 19,000 a piece. Employment was also up in the mining and logging industry. While local governments added 8,000 jobs, those gains were offset by a decline of 9,000 in federal government jobs.
