This story is just sad. I feel terrible for the driver. Not only does he have to deal with the sadness and remorse of hitting a child, he has to deal with the anger and frustration of being beaten for a mistake.
It's pretty sad that nobody there had the wit to diffuse the situation before it got violent.

And the man being attacked would have been to rattled to have any rational thought and be able to do anything effective with a gun, it would have gotten him killed.
How do you know this? Just because you can not do something does not mean everyone else is incapable of doing that same thing...
