What about the people paying his salary, the taxpayers? 75% of Americans earn less than 50K, 94% earn less than 100K. 174K puts them in the top 4-5% of American earners, they also have great benefits.

I'm sorry, but I live in the area. It is expensive to live here but $174,000 is more than plenty. He's complaining about not getting a raise, but in case he missed the memo, a great many of his fellow citizens have experienced a significant lowering of their standard of living during the last 5-6 years. Additionally, federal employees have gone three years without a raise too and finally got a mere 1% this year.

Im sorry but if you cant live off of 175k salary plus benefits they get , the pay is not the problem but the lifestyle they have is. 175k is doable for many people , especially people that are making half of that and are able to live life.
75k is NOT nearly enough. They have to have 2 residences after all, or do you want to pay them 75k, plus Hotel expenses when in DC, too.

actually I would like them to what they were elected to do. Represent the best interests of the nation and their constituents. I would like to see them actually for once say no to foreign aid, big business and welfare programs and write a budget that doesn't require tax increases to support out of control spending.
They asked to be elected. They wanted the job. Don't whine about the pay for the job you spent hundreds of thousands or more to obtain.

Poor guy, must be the only one in Congess that makes just his base salary. Is he not aware that everyone else sells themselves to lobbyists and Corporate interest?

A month of vacation in August, free car with parking, free flights to almost anywhere, 401k and pension. They do pay 28% of their healthcare premium. I can see where it would be hard to make that $174,000 go very far.

I have a suggestion. Build them a barracks to live in, just like the soldiers and sailors have.

Such a sense of entitlement.

Yes, I'm a conservative and it's not just the moochers on welfare who I think sound pathetically entitled.

90%-95% of Americans somehow make it on less. Cry me a river.
