The Permian die-off some 250 million years nearly made this planet lifeless when climate changed , 70% of all species were abrutply wiped out 65 million years ago when climate changed, primates were created when climate shifted soem 45 million years ago and 7 million years ago said primates had to leave the forest canopy and lean to walk when climate changed again. 72,000 years ago genus Homo Sapiens nearly went extinct when a big volcano exploded in Indonesia and climate abruptly changed and 12,000 years ago Mastadons and Wooly Mamoths went extinct when climate changed and became a few degrees warmer. Climate change can create new life or juswt as easily take it away. Professor Tol is a profoundly ignorant man.
FACTS, not "scientific conjecture" or "climate theories":
1. We need good paying jobs in the United States. LOTS of them.
2. Building dikes and seawalls on the West and East coasts, and the Gulf of Mexico would create LOTS of jobs; ditch diggers, equipment operators, Mechanics, engineers, plumbers, iron workers, pipe fitters, mill wrights, architects, etc. ALL good paying jobs!
3. IF what the climate change alarmists are saying is true, such dikes and seawalls will be absolutely necessary within the next 100 years, which, oddly enough, is likely just about how long it would take to build them.
4. Projects to take water from where it is not wanted to where it is needed would create the identical types of jobs, again, LOTS of jobs!
THOSE are FACTS, not conjecture.
QUESTION: WHY is nothing being done?
Answer: the 0.01% of Americans who have the wealth don't want to pay the taxes to do the work. Such people can simply get in their private jets and head for a nice mountain retreat (Jackson Hole, Vail or Sun Valley or Lake Tahoe) if New York, Martha's Vineyard, Hyannis, The Hamptons, Boca Raton or Mailbu gets flooded!
All the Climate denighing clowns need to be put on an Arctic Ice flow as these people really do believe that ice won't melt if they pray hard enough!!!
Well, I can see the authors point...even though I don't agree. It's not disagreement or even being skeptical of global warming, which shows most of the people in the thread haven't read a word of the article. If people go out of their way to make sure people aren't prepared for events where people die the writer thinks those people should be held responsible.
As example, if some one campaigned and got the hurricane barriers torn down outside of Miami saying hurricanes are myths...and a hurricane sweeps in that kills people...or if someone campaigned not to have snowplows in Minnisota and people died because of food shortages and inability to get to downed lines.
If people agree or not, he does have the freedom of speech...unless it only applies to those you like.
Also, that one person's opinion applies to all folk who accept the reality of global warming lacks integrity. I can say that global warming denialists are closeted freakshows because Larry Craig solicited an agent in a Denver airport bathroom. Do you really want to start that ****?

97% of climate scientists believe man made global warming is happening, and 99.99% of the climate science (community) believes man made global warming is happening.

Good point. It could be that we only have 1.2 degrees to go. Still that's an extremely unlikely scenario to happen in just 22 years.

Why would I do that? That hypothesis was probably proven wrong 3000 years ago. CAGW has not been proven wrong in the same sense of the word, but it has yet to overcome the Null Hypothesis.
So people on the the climate change gravity train warn against it in order to get more money, it is as simple as this..
Step 1: Become a climatologist and publish scientific studies about climate change.

Step 3: Profit!
I think it goes more like this:
Step 1: Get a PhD in a non scientific field like economics, history, etc...
Step 2: Get yourself on TV and paid speaking gigs denying the existence or severity of climate change.
