Do you believe these two Marines violated the protesters' constitutional right - first amendment right?

Share your thoughts.

I think the Marines violated their property rights.

Yeah, I would say so too. You don't have to agree with people's action, but you still need to respect their constitutional right, and not violate somebody's property right.

But think of it this way, only a truly confident country will allow their citizens to burn the flag, or fly the flag upside down in order to protect their first amendment constitutional right. No other countries will do it.

But I am wondering though since burning flags is constitutional right, is it okay to stop somebody from burning it, will people get in trouble for that?
It depends. If you ask someone not to burn it, and they agree not to. No harm, no foul.
If you grab it from them, it's theft.
If you hit them to make them stop, it's assault.
If you stand there yelling, but not touching or harming them, you are exercising your free speech.

Yes, fair enough. This is what I have thought too.

To be in all honesty. The protestors feel they are in distress with an outlaw police state killing unarmed people.

Maybe the Marines should have been taught that our nation is based on the constitution and the rights within it and not on a flag.

IN all fairness, i think this is just a very sad situation.

Marines are taught to salute the color, if you have served in the Marine Corps, you will know their general attitude towards the American flags. The history goes back to Battle of Iwo Jima (correct me if I am wrong, as I am not a Marine Corps history expert)

I think both the protesters and the Marines were doing what they believed in. I understand their motive.

It is hard to take the protesters seriously though because all you can see if a big flag flying upside down. When I see that, honestly, I just think they are drama queens who want to get attention. If they want to protest, why not do it peacefully or respectfully, or at least let others know what they are protesting about?

When you burn the flag or fly the flag upside down, honestly, I think people just thought you don't like the country or you don't like the flag.

I think they should be taught it is never okay to snatch the flag from somebody or put their hands on somebody (not saying they did)

But there is a big gap between Marine culture and civilian society.

Have you seen the movie rules of engagement? They really do risk their lives for that flag.
