This ground has not always been "Federal Land" 20 years ago and 120 years prior, Mr. Bundy paid the county taxes to own, improve and graze the land. BLM came in 23 years ago and confiscated the land for the protection of a Tortoise. Which we now know was a complete scam.
So, rights were removed by the Federal government and made a privilege, for a cost.
A cost that remove 52 other ranchers from the area.
You are flatly wrong. This land has been Federal land since 1848. Mr. Bundy and his progenitors paid grazing fees to the Federal government from 1934-1993.
In 1993, the Federal government was required to alter the grazing rights lease terms due to the desert Tortoise - which resides on this particular piece of land - being added to the Endangered Species List. Bundy didn't like the changes. He refused the new lease terms, but he also refused to leave the land. He decided to stop paying for the use of the land, but to continue to use it as he always had. He became a freeloading trespasser.
He came up with some cockamamie theory that the federal government didn't really own the land (even though he'd been paying the federal government to use it for decades), and that if he was going to pay anyone to graze the land, he was going to pay the state of Nevada. Of course, he ended up paying nobody, and instead stole 20 years of usage.
Strange this family has owned it since the 1800's and he was never a thief and now in 2014 the Bundy Ranch is? Amazing how quickly laws can change when those in charge decide to change in the blink of an eye. Owning land and having grazing rights since the 1800's, is not like the family just started grazing 1997.
What are you talking about? The Federal Government had always owned the land in question ("always" being since 1848 when we got it from Mexico through warfare). His family never owned it.
Define "taking care of the land" that Las Vegas sits upon and please explain why you think the Paiutes are incapable of doing so.
If you knew the tribe that now lives there only consists of 52 tribal members living on the reservation and 71 people were enrolled in the tribe. Hardly enough people to manage the land and all it's tortoise needs.
Another known fact you should learn before you are willing to give back land that didn't belong to the Native Americans! This is getting as bad as those who believe the Mexicans owned this land first!
History traces the Paiute Indians back to around 1200AD where they were thought to inhabit an area in Utah now called Bryce Canyon.

You must be talking about the same tortoise the BLM killed off because they couldn't afford to feed it recently. They could however afford to send hundreds of agents to round up a rancher's cattle at a likely cost of hundreds of thousands of dollars to millions of dollars only to release the cattle later and leave. By the way the BLM was about to lose the state court case over the tortoise at which point they withdrew and declared the state had no authority over them.

The land that Harrier is sitting on was owned by a particular Mexican at one point, and if Harrier wished to dig out a map, he could even give you the man's name.
It was taken away from him in the land commision cases of the 19th century.
Before that it was under the custodianship of Spain, who stole it from certain Tongva peoples who had lived here for hundreds of years.
