Let me google that for you

In the Michigan university system, before race was banned as a consideration for admissions, they used a points based admission process and points were given for certain racial groups. Blacks received extra points just for being Black. Hispanics also got points added but less than Blacks. Whites got zero additional points. And Asians got points taken away. This was one of the blatant racial tactics used that gave traction to an anti-discrimination referendum that was passed in Michigan a few years ago.

he time has come to shift supports for the poor to the WORKING (or attempting to find work) poor.

1. Rewards for MARRIED couples.

2. Assistance with quality childcare so that both parents can work. Also support in parenting skills.

3. More emphasis on affordable housing where the families pay part of the rent.

4. More aggressive and relevant skills training and help in obtaining employment...an opportunity to match this training with what employers need.

5. As household incomes rise a GRADUAL phasing out of benefits to allow the family to transition to full independence.

But I already hear the howls from the ultra right and the ultra left, so this will never happen!
I would agree that these are good measures. Keeping families together should be encouraged. Encouraging and helping people to strive is a good idea. Helping people to transition from dependence to independence is a good idea. Now the question is this. Why aren't we doing more of this?

because political conversation has been taken over by the extremes, especially the loonie right.

In life no one has a monopoly of good or bad ideas which is why people who are moderate are more likely ti listen, to compromise, and to attempt to use the best ideas regardless of source.

Instead we have the extreme right who have no interest in helping the poor. They just want to damn the poor. And then there is the left who adopt condescending attitudes about the poor, who they think can't help themselves. The cynic in me also suspects that many fear the end of poverty because this will mean the end of poverty programs, which are often very profitable for every one but the poor.

All you need to do to understand how false that is, is to realize that the vast majority of low-income voters and under-educated voters vote Democrat. Has their situation improved any by voting for Democrats time and time again?

Think about that. Give that serious thought...

How would it improve if they voted for Republicans?

This question has been asked since time immemorial, and the Republicans still have no answer.

Look at those who vote for Republicans at higher percentages. They've overwhelmingly graduated high school (65% of those without a high school diploma vote Democrat), and earn higher incomes.

What I've never been able to understand is why the most struggling consistently vote for those who have the greatest incentive (high vote percentage) to keep them dumb and poor...

Either Republicans are too dumb to articulate the message that their platform is good for the poor, or their platform really is bad for the poor and the poor know it.

The question is: Why do well-to-do Asians and Latinos also avoid the Republican Party?

The Cliven Bundy thread is still going.

Again, the mark of racists is that they always want to tell you what is wrong with the negro or black people or African Americans. It is how the racial narrative in this nation works and it is how we discuss black people.

Cliven thinks black people were better off being slaves and this other idiot thinks black people were better off when they were under the siege of terrorism known as Jim Crow and Separate but Equal and not being able to vote or get certain jobs and live in certain neighborhoods.

Again, basically, the mindset is that black people were better off when were controlled and demeaned and treated inhumanely.

Evidently that is still up for debate with Americans. Hey were black people better off getting lynched and not even being able to walk into certain stores, vote, not be assured they white folks wouldn't riot and destroy their town or are they better off now with their freedom?

LOL, this thread is an ode to white supremacist thinking and the belief in the inherent inferiority of black people.

It is shameful that it continues. It is shameful that C-D let's it continue.

Imagine a thread about were the Jews better off in Hitler's Germany? It would be viewed as anti-Semitic at the very least.

But hey asking if black people were better off under the terrorist regime of Jim Crow America hey that is up for debate.

There are a lot of sick minds.

You need to look at it a different way. Democrats are keeping so many dumb and poor (for votes, look at voter demographic statistics for the under-educated and low-income) that the dumb and poor don't realize that by the Democrats doing so, they're trapping millions into a lifetime of struggle.

Proof of what I've stated: the income and wealth gap are widening under Obama.

Income Inequality Worse Under Obama Than George W. Bush - Huffington Post

Oh, I know... Obama and the Dems are all about "the message." But take a real hard look at how what is really going on is directly contradicting what Obama and the Democrats promise the people.
