AB 540 Students

This is terribly unfortunate. Veterans preference should trump equally qualified applicants. More proof that the majority of our institutions of higher learning are operated by and for Liberals.

There should be no Veterans preference but I agree Illegals should be treated as law breakers and not benefit from services properly due to citizens and legal residents.

78,000 applicants versus 8,000 slots.

22,000 transfer applicants versus 3,000 slots.

It's San Diego which likely has a substantial number of Vets applying for school at any point in time.

The intended major matters which may be why the vet with a 3.48 GPA was accepted.

VA is picking up the tab for his education.

US students compete with international students at most schools.

It sucks he didn't get in, but with that many applicants he probably didn't stand out even with his grades and background.

They shouldn't have to! Particularly if they have served this country. Typical American syndrome. We take care of everyone but our own....

And those that don't get in impact the local 2 year schools after that. For example, Mesa had 33k students and 3000 parking spots. Slightly over booked?

The reason they do is because of $$$ usually. Often with public universities there are tuition and sometimes scholarship preferences for in-state (or in some case in multi-state region) students. The result being that the universities make a whole lot more money off of foreign students who often have to pay sticker w/o any financial incentives.

Now if you are for paying the taxes to make this not an issue you can be, but I suspect 99% of the time this probably wouldn't concern you.

Bump in the road for now, unfortunately. This young man appears to be quite determined and hard working. As such, I trust that he is productive in his pursuit.

Illegal aliens should be deported, nor rewarded.

But then the highest reaches of our government and our top law enforcement officials spit in the face of our laws. First we need to take back control of our government from these lawless fools.

Sen. Sessions: 'Deliberate Plan by President' to Collapse U.S. Law Enforcement System | CNS News

"So, you come into the country illegally and the attorney general of the United States declares that these individuals have a civil right to amnesty. How can this possibly be: the chief law enforcement officer in America?

"Vice President Biden recently said, quote: 'You know, 11million people live in the shadows; I believe they're already American citizens.' Eleven million undocumented aliens are already Americans? Goodness. The vice president of the United States would make such a statement. It's stunning beyond belief."
