Britt lets recap your logic in this thread.

Russian jet flies past US ship: OMG why isn't Obama doing anything!

US ship shoots Russian jet: Russia won't do anything.

You don't realize how foolish this is? Exactly what part of the decades-old rules of engagement is Obama responsible for?

This.

Shooting down the fighter would've made us look worse, not better.

Not enough initially, it is called "escalation", do I need to define that big word for you?

Sure, shoot down the jet, then Russia fires back with three anti-ship missiles and severely damage, or sink the destroyer...now what? What is the next move captain?

Also, the ethics around shooting down an unarmed jet that is almost a mile away in international waters...

Default So what?

To Conservatives, this calls for Neanderthal diplomacy. Shoot the sucker down, then lie to start a war, so we can send thousands to their death in a useless military effort. This, while the entire domestic agenda falls into crisis mode.

You sound a lot like John McCain! Look, the world knows Obama is weak. He's the laughing stock of the entire world! But, in my opinion as a retired career USAF officer, the utter embarrassment would have been to shoot down that plane! The US needs to butt out of the entire fiasco! Believe me, you don't really even know the truth about why the US is there. It's not pretty! Our government isn't on our side! You make some pretty poor arguments! Just my opinion!

That would have sent a strong signal to Putin that we mean business and won't allow a threat to put our crews in jeopardy. What the Russians are doing is taunting putative president Obama, something that would never have happened in this situation under Reagan, Bush 1 and 2 or even if Palin was president. They are making this putative president look extremely weak on the international scene and it is a utter embarrassment to us all. In 2016 we need a strong pro-military president who will use common sense and take a strong stance on agression around the world when peaceful nations are threatened by hardline goverments.

Admiral Reid assures us that shooting down the jet will have no consequences for us.

Well Spencer, can you please explain why the putative president has us there in your opinion and why you think the government isn't on our side?

I could but I won't waste the time on this forum. This isn't a football game! Your best interests are of no concern to the US government! The egos of politicians shouldn't be built with the blood of US troops!

Bin Laden?

Obama took credit for bagging Bin Laden after information gained through enhanced interrogation performed at secret CIA prisons led us to him.

Obama campaigned against such forms of interrogation and closed the CIA prisons were it was performed.

"An Al Qaeda suspect who was subjected to harsh interrogation techniques at a secret CIA prison in early 2004 provided a clue, the nom de guerre of a mysterious courier, that ultimately proved crucial to finding Osama bin Laden, officials said Wednesday."

I love how liberals run around thumping their chests about killing Bin Laden while calling Bush war criminal for doing what was needed to locate him.
