Well Harrier holds some positions that are considered to be liberal - opposition to the death penalty, support for legalization of all drugs, and common sense environmentlal regulation, yet he is a Republican.
The Republican Party is the home of all modern day classical liberals in this republic.
Democrats are no longer classical liberals - they are left wing socialist extremists - which is what the term "liberal" means today.
Classical liberals are todays conservatives.
Harrier is a conservative with a few liberal traits (and a likable and decent person if I might add.)
But a republican is not a conservative, rather a republican is someone being manipulated by the CEO's at Fox news and Rush radio, and also by the CEO republican politicians.
The following documentary shows how these CEO's manipulate US republicans.

Well, the republican party is rooted in progressivism, even, if I dare say it. liberalism. After all, it is liberals who fought the good fight for the end of slavery, women's suffrage, the end to Jim Crow, the end of laws against miscegenation and interracial marriage, civil rights.
The real question is whether or not whomever supports the expansion of personal liberty, or opposes it.
I suggest that the answer is not found in party affiliation.
Liberal or Conservative, I cannot stand to hold up a D sign
This was the party that Andrew Jackson wore when he marched the Cherokee nation off their lands
The party that the South used to stop freed blacks from voting for almost 100 years
The party that gave birth to the klan
The party that caused the entire mess of using politics to make the minorities depend on THEIR welfare benefits instead of seeking education and job opportunities
And if that's not enough
Last but not least, the party that forced mandated healthcare fines down the throats of the middle class to wipe out whatever is left of small businesses
It is a very difficult party history to idolize and I can't hold the D sign with a smile. I can have liberal views on issues, but the name Democrat has been scarred.
Would you agree?
Yep, but I have to wonder, people continue to support Democrats so those people must be doing really well.
I do love how sometimes the witless unwittingly prove my point. So the next time you hear "Republicans freed the slaves..." or "Democrats fought the Civil Rights Act" remember you post -- things change over time...

So I take it you're another one of these people saying the party that formed the backbone of the Confederacy is the same party of Carter, Clinton, and Obama?
That is a false statement and it is also the antithesis of Harrier's current research paper.
Harrier has liberals such as yourself to thank for introducing him to the topic.
If you want a copy of the final product - let Harrier know and he will e-mail to you it this summer.
