Well for once we agree lifer I never thought I'd see it. Sadaam killed all his enemies and all their families so they would never have any recourse when he too over. If that is a "Jewel" I don't want any part of it. What the US did was about oil trading not slaughtering families to attain power.

Sadam was a bad man/ruler and I still don't understand why the USA attacked Iraq. But the reality today is that the Iraqis have to rebuild their capital.

Before Saddam, Baghdad and Iraq were actually decent places. Baghdad was a healthy Middle East city and the country was a farming country, especially in the southern part of Iraq, until Saddam cut off their water source and dried up their farming land.

I have never been there but read some things about how beautiful Iraq in certain places were. They had oil and Saddam cut some deals with the EU and so it goes. We had to kill him. Protect the dollar at all costs. It aint easy to remain the worlds reserve currency. Our days are done now and I think it is intentional. That is why we let the Russians run wild now.

"Baghdad (AFP) - As recently as the 1970s, Baghdad was lauded as a model city in the Arab world. But now, after decades of seemingly endless conflict, it is the world's worst city.

That is, at least, according to the latest survey by the Mercer consulting group, which when assessing quality of life across 239 cities, measuring factors including political stability, crime and pollution, placed Baghdad last.

Once an Arab model, Baghdad now world's worst city
In your post you point out that it was nice "as recently as the 1970s," which would mean that it has been bad or in decline since then, and then you solely blame something that started in 2003 - 33 years after the decline? Your own post exposes your suspension of critical thinking to attack Mr. Bush.

Seems kind of pointless to ask an American this question since they have no idea what quality of life anyone would have in Iraq, before or after Saddam. Seems like the question would be better directed at someone who would actually know, like, say, an Iraqi?

Lol...Dearborn is pretty damn nice.

Anyway, I wouldn't blame Bush completely, but the Iraq War has definitely been pretty debilitating for the Iraqis. It's been a disaster for us too.

I don't know how W. can sleep. I'll never understand what motivated him to do something so stupid. He even visits wounded vets. SMH...the guy must either have no conscience or he's completely oblivious to the damage he's done.
