He's done nothing to indicate he's a "pro-gun control" Republican, don't know where you dug that up. He supports a "Don't Shoot" initiative to keep gang bangers from shooting each other but is hardly in favor of gun control. He overstepped his bounds here but is a pretty decent guy and Mayor otherwise.
I have no idea, but having grown up in Iliinois it would surprise me if the mayor of Peoria was a pro gun Republican. He's obviously anti-twitter, and that does not surprise me at all.
Was the parody twitter writer standing in a designated 'speech' zone when the 'send' button was hit? If not, they are in big trouble. It could cause camo dressed 'people' with m-16's surrounding their house.
Was he impersonating the mayor? Or just using a similar twitter account?
He was impersonating the Mayor using parody, which is protected free speech. Then Mayor's argument is that the parody was not obvious. His handling of this by sending seven plainclothes officers into this mans house on a search warrant was way over the top, and it will be interesting to see how this plays out.
City Mayor Uses Police to Raid House for Twitter Parody Account
Talk about a misuse of power. I hope the people involved sue the ever living crap out of the mayor, the police department, and anyone else involved in this blatantly unconstitutional power play.
