Canada actually did allow Quebec to hold secession referendums in 1980 and in 1995. The pro-secession side lost both of these referendums.

You are heavily brainwashed by the lying western propaganda and even don't realize it.
First of all, the georgian event happened in august 8th, 2008, not a couple years back. But most important, Russia didn't grab georgian land and never had such intention. Georgian military troops perfidiously attacked Abkhasia and South Ossetia (their peaceful citizens) at the day of the openning of the Olympics. Historically, it was a good and kind tradition to stop all armed conflicts and to declare a temporary truce during the Olympics. But in fact, Georgia started a treacherous war against Abkhasia and S. Ossetia at this high festival day of humankind. They asked Russia to save them and Russia kicked georgian military troops back from Abkhasian and Ossetian territories. But Russia didn't grab their land. Both Abkhasia and South Ossetia declared their independency and they are small independent states now. Yes, I know that USA don't recognize their independency. But this is because USA didn't get his puppets in Abkhasia and Ossetia and because USA failed his geopolitical pretention in this region.

Ukraine?
Again, during the Olympics, USA organized the coup in Ukraine by the same colour revolution technology with the help of ukrainian ultra-right radicals and neo-nazis. Putin was too busy with the Sochi Olympics and he couldn't bear any "grabbing ukrainian land" plan at all. It is obvious!
USA organized chaos in Ukraine and in fact set up his anti-russian puppets there. But Crimea, as a pro-russian territory, didn' want to live under this regime imposed to them and held a referendum. Crimea reunited with Russia by their own will! Yes, Putin gladly supported their decision. But it was not Putin's secret operation to grab any ukrainian land. Obviously, Putin hadn't such plan during the Sochi Olympics.
If the USA wouldn't have undertook his recurrent adventure in Ukraine as USA usual do around the world, Putin wouldn't have made a move.
Everything that happened in Ukraine is provoked by the USA.

TriMT7, I really respect your patriotic feelings. It is really a great thing.
But it's not good at all to support any unfairness, crime, iniquity and inhuman act of the US govt. Even if there is no God, we all must remember we have conscience, honour and dignity.

Are you Russian, or have you been to Russia? I want to know how Putin has helped the country get ahead. I'd argue, America is much worse than 20 years ago when we could have put the "peace dividend" to good use.
