Seems you are confusing ownership with paying for public services.

Could you imagine paying 30% sales tax on a purchase?

Enlightened states will just exempt food and clothing (rightfully so), which will pass the burden onto the true consumers. Could you imagine paying $6,000 of sales taxes on a $20,000 car?

Yeah. If people bought their property and own it, why should they have to pay taxes on it?

It's the principle of it. I feel more like a tenant to the county than a true owner of my home+land, since they can boot me if I don't fork over some dough every year, ya know?
Assuming you own free and clear, it's more likely that the purchaser of your unpaid taxes will be the entity who forcloses on your property, after a defined redemption period whereby you pay the purchaser back, plus interest.

Because it is on government land.

What is your proposal for an alternative?

Have you really thought this through? I don't think you have.

The question is, should the fundamental foundation of liberty be traded to pay for a fire department to put out a fire in the home you can never actually own? To pay for police who will never be there to prevent a crime against you, or an education system that indoctrinates your children to embrace the same brand of serfdom you seem to embrace? This is the real question.

You see, aside any excuses to impose property taxes, property tax itself eliminates private property ownership by an individual, and makes all property the property of the taxing authority. It means you can never own property yourself, but only enjoy the illusion of ownership so long as you pay your rent to the property taxman.

According to the poll, it looks like our overlords have sufficiently brainwashed almost half of the population, who now defend the the theft of our most fundamental foundation of freedom.

The excuses to do so are lacking any form of logic ...

To fund fire departments - great idea!! Let's pay for the protection of property that the banks and local tax authorities own, who let you think you own your house, so long as you pay your tax. Should misfortune strike, and you cannot pay your fee ... you will quickly discover who the true owners of your house are! They are very grateful that you are willing to pay for the fire protection of their property.

To fund police - great idea!!! The banks and tax authorities need someone with guns to evict you should you fail to pay your fee. It's comforting to know that some of your rent goes to pay for the Sheriff deputies who will be called upon to remove you from their house, by force, if necessary.

To fund education - great idea!!! We need government run indoctrination centers to teach our children to embrace the chains that will bind them. This is particularly helpful in convincing them to work hard to pay for the manufacturing of those chains, as well as for the authorities needed to attach them, and keep them attached.

In the other thread you said they are paying it through rent which I would agree with, wouldn't it simply be better exposed as a tax instead of hidden in the cost of the rent?

How do you feel about Alaska? What about Tennessee? I don't think this needs to be said, but the places with no property taxes aren't going to have much of anything.

Anderson, AK
Coopertown, TN
And there is some town north of Austin, TX that doesn't have a property tax, but might have a school tax. I don't remember the name of the place, but I do remember that they have a bunch of shopping centers.

You pay taxes for the services, not the ownership. No services - no taxes.

In my case a sales tax would be a good deal.....I can write most things off of my income.

I would come out ahead......still I am not for the idea.
