And they force employers to other parts of the country and the world for cheaper labor due in part to union demands.
Please, for the love of all things good, tell me how fighting for rights and benefits will actually benefit anyone when the company pulls up roots, relocates, and sends employees home without a job?

There was never a threat of that at VW. Corp wanted the union. Now given labor having seats on the German Board, I wonder if Tn has any shot at a new vehicle. If not, the plant will not last, as sales of the Passat have steadily dropped.

Oh, please were American union members supposed to be competitive when Chinese workers were working for a $1 an hour? Lol

In Germany unions are a part of corporate policy making. It actually makes it easier for companies like Mercedes to deal with organized labor rather than unrepresented mass of employees. But this of course will never be understood by people living in poor right-to-work states.

With automation plus the cost of shipping, they often are. We make many products in our Southeast plants that were in-sourced from Asia.
Back to the real Topic-Now in this case had Bill Clinton not vetoed a bill this VW situation would have a far more palatable possible ending. BC vetoed legislation which would have allowed work councils without formal union recognition. A very stupid decision on his part-payoff to union buds, no doubt!
But no one could claim here the plant was threatened by the union. They were fine with the idea. What non-locals are missing here is Corker & Haslam did not engage in mistruths to benefit VW-this was about them doing a favor for Nissan. That is immoral, as one corps employees decisions should not be used as PAWNS for another corp.
Apparently you missed my point about the VW Board. Where they are physically located is irrelevant. The fact that they don't have to deal with a Union is the point ... and don't even think for a second that they are not squealing with glee over the Union loss. Methinks they wish is would happen in der Fatherland as well.
By the way ... I still want to hear when "indicated" becomes reality. It ain't gonna happen.
