Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal today signed into law a wide-ranging gun bill that has critics howling and proponents applauding
House Bill 60, or the Safe Carry Protection Act of 2014 -- which opponents have nicknamed the "guns everywhere bill" -- specifies where Georgia residents can carry weapons. Included are provisions for taking guns into some bars, churches, school zones, government buildings and certain parts of airports.
GeorgiaCarry, which lobbied for the bill, calls it "meaningful pro-gun legislation," despite it being watered down from the group's perspective. Still, the group has lauded the legislation, which will go into effect July 1. Americans for Responsible Solutions opposed the bill, calling it "extremism in action."

boy oh boy, I am not against guns at all, but this, this is insane, you'll have every sicko cop wannabe out there toteing guns every where, it is going to be like the old wild west...

I'm sorry, but I am and never have been against guns, my entire family are hunters, however, this? This is freakin scary and nuts.....
Why is this scary? I live in FL, and I don't see anything special about this bill.
This law changes nothing in regard to getting a license to carry concealed in Georgia. You still have to jump through all the same hoops as always... photo, background check, fingerprints, class, etc....
People aren't going to rush out to get CWP's just because they can carry in a few places that they previously could not. Any establishment can still make policy to make their business a "gun free zone" if they choose.
There is already over 8 million CWP's in the U.S. and it has not turned into "the wild west". In fact, CWP owners are 13 times less likely to be arrested than the rest of the public.
On this topic, and probably only this topic, I agree with Glitch of Alaska. People should be encouraged to carry firearms wherever they have a legal right to be. All states should recognize all other states right to carry even if no permitting program exists.
I do not fear law abiding people carrying firearms. I do fear, because the law requires it, being unarmed in places I think there might be armed criminals. In those places I prefer to be armed and generally am. Even criminals have some functioning brains and their knowing that the 7-Eleven clerk and most customers are unarmed only encourages robberies. In many cases clerks and customers, even though effectively defenseless, are shot just to eliminate witnesses. If the business disarms its employees that is their decision. However they do not have any right to disarm me. I am a sane independent law abiding citizen and have a right to carry a firearm anyplace I have a right to be.

Alaska does issue concealed carry permits, but it is for reciprocity purposes with other States only. A CCP is not required to carry concealed in Alaska. It is always better to be armed and not need it, than to need it and not have it. In the 52 years I have been carrying firearms, I have never had the need to use my firearms in self-defense. While I certainly hope that remains to be the case, I will continue to carry just in case it is not.

see, those are the worms I was worried about when opening a can....as well as there are good things about it, there are trade offs and othe ways around things, this is not good.

That is not surprising. After all, the bill strips the power of Police Chiefs to determine who should be allowed to carry concealed and who should not. Generally speaking, those with the power typically object when you strip them of that power.
Interesting to note that the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police vehemently opposes this law.
No surprise there... many LEO's are against the public legally carrying. They want to be the only ones with firearms.
