We do understand that we are hated by some.
We just do not care, why should we give a dam what someone thinks of us?

We give more money and aid then any other country...........

Everybody wants to list the reason why we are hated by others but no-one ever list the reasons why we should care!!
Because there are none.
If there are people that do not like us, it more often means that they want what we have.

And for the people that live in this great country and still talk about us........well they are FREE to leave at any time!!

America is hated because...

We're successful,
We don't believe in fighting an enemy on our soil, (better to fight them on THEIR soil)
We don't think that dying man for man in combat makes sense, (a 50 or 100 to 1 kill ratio is the whole idea!)
We have citizens from all over the world who FLOW into the U.S. for a better life, and others don't like this.
We have democratic institutions that though flawed actually DO work....case in point, Barak H. Obama is President (elect) and he will assume the office of the President of the United States in a PEACEFUL AND ORDERLY TRANSITION OF POWER....IMAGINE! Many countries have NEVER been able to go from one government to another with out years of bloodshed....Very few nations in the last two hundred and some odd years have been able to do this....

America is hated because WE like who WE are, and others who hate us can't stand that we don't hate ourselves....(go figure)
America is hated because we still are very tolerant people (crazy fringe groups on the left and right notwithstanding) Americans still very much believe in the "live and let live" ideal, and many MANY people in the rest of the world HATE this about us...They frequently want us to HATE the people that they hate....and it infuriates others that we refuse to do this....
America is hated because we still have the best military forces in the world, bar NONE....and whats more....these military forces are TOTALLY under the control of the CIVILIAN government....(even more incomprehensible to lots of other nations out there) We don't have military take-overs here, and when Pres. Obama says go, or get out....that is precisely what we will do...
Many people in other nations hate America because we are SOOOOO INCREDIBLY FREE! We have freedoms in the U.S. that others will NEVER have, EVER!
We don't have sharia law here, we don't cut off peoples heads, or hands. We have a free press that says anything it wants, about anybody, true or not true. The web is totally free, the press is totally free. This ASTOUNDS other people in other nations and because they don't, can't or REFUSE to COMPREHEND this...they resort to hate....probably because it is easy.
We are hated in America because we are able to improve ourselves, move from place to place, live where we want, visit where we want, worship where we want, associate freely with whomever we want and live our lives as best we see fit. Other nations don't have this freedom (for whatever reason) and so they HATE us because they JUST DON'T GET IT.....

Oh well...

Now that we have B.H. Obama as President, absolutely EVERYONE will LOVE US!!!! (I hope....)

That is one of the reasons their ketchup and sweets taste different(one could say better and less cloy).

This is a little late but here it goes.

No group of people or ethncity should be "hated" for what there government does. Especially since, while we are a democracy/Republic, we have no control over the many military adventures the US government gets involved with.

Furthermore, even if we americans did have control, why would someone assume you are one of the americans that support the government??

It is pure ignorance and infantile for anyone to harrass, be hostile, or give the cold shoulder a tourist/traveler for being part of a certain country.

The way I look at it is historical, Once the US got to be the only super power they naturally turn agianst it. IWhne they were a power Britain and Frances were hated all over the world . In many places the western world still suffers from that time they hwere dominate. So as long as your on top people are going to hate you because you basically have power.Look at the hate for anyone that has done well from those that haven't in this country .No different.

They just want to voice their belief that they are the best country in the world and have never done anything wrong. On the contrary, so they believe, they have been the most generous and helpful country in the world. Unfortunately, the facts are quite different. The USA is very good at media manipulation. Their propaganda techniques would have made Goebbels faint with delight. The USA has helped the world, but just as often, they have helped themselves -- to the resources and well-being of the world. US foreign policy is openly based completely on national self-interest, not international cooperation. The only kind of cooperation the USA understands is one-way cooperation where other countries cooperate with the USA. Other countries must do what the USA requires or be punished by what is euphemistically called linkage, which means punishment for disobeying orders.

Having good advertising/propaganda technique is not in itself a bad thing, but it does mean that US citizens can't see the world clearly from within their own environment. The USA is in many ways an excellent country. The problem is that this is so often at cost to the rest of the world, both in wealth and lives. State-of-the-art media manipulation ensures that most US citizens don't know what is being done in their name. US Americans are given the mushroom treatment by their government and media, but this does not exonerate them from the responsibility to seek the facts for themselves.
As the saying goes, whoever discovered water wasn't a fish. It is impossible for most US residents to be aware of what is going on at a global scale. You have to get out of the pond to see the water. You have to get out of the palace to understand the feelings on the street.
Americans genuinely don't understand how much evil they do because they have a blind spot for their own country's evil.
The United States sees world issues with one eye closed. US citizens see only what is good about themselves and their client states and what is bad in others. But they should open the other eye too - and see the evil in themselves and the good in others.
About 3000 innocent civilians were killed on 2001-9-11. This is a tiny token compared the suffering inflicted on the world by the USA. (Perhaps I should mention that the murder rate by guns in the USA is about 110 per million per annum, or about 30,000 per annum for the whole country. So the deaths on 2001-9-11 equalled a typical 5 weeks of murders in the USA.) [PS. 2005-1-7: The USA has killed about 150,000 people in Afghanistan and Iraq since 2001-9-11. That's a 50-to-1 revenge ratio.]
In the USA, it is said that the terrorists hate the democracy and freedom of the USA and the West. This is complete garbage. Anyone with more than 5 neurons working in their brain knows that this is garbage. People worldwide admire the good things of the USA and hate the bad things. US citizens must do some homework to find out what crimes, barbarism and atrocities are committed in their name. It's the same old story - the people are good, but the government is bad. The difference in a democracy is that the people choose their government (at least in theory). So in a democracy, the people are responsible for the crimes and evil of their government. People who trumpet the virtues of their democracy should remember that they are responsible for the crimes of their government. There are so many good people in the USA, isn't it a shame they're not running the country. The USA has built up a deep reservoir of hate against it. The reservoir of hate has become much deeper since 2001-9-11. Sometimes the dam wall breaks a little. But if the USA does not open its eyes soon, the dam wall will burst wide open and unleash the entire reservoir. The suicide hijackings are just the first in a series of anti-USA actions which are sure to continue. If you whip an angry lion, it does not lie down and roll over. A country which has a shoot'em up approach to world politics should not be surprised when some of their victims take the same attitude. Since the USA has been terrorizing the world for the last 100 years, they can't be surprised if a little terror blows back at them. If the USA continues to treat other countries of the world as provinces which need to be suppressed, they could soon find that no US citizen will be safe without bodyguards in almost any part of the world.

50 to 1 ratio is not enough, it shoulld be 100k or more to one. I would rather have all those islamic radicals stamped out so they could not bother anyone else again. if other countries are not willing to do it, then it is left to us.
If other countries dont want the USA to do it either, then get out of our way and get the Un out of the USA too.

And I agree it is easy to lump people with their government and is done with regularity. When we were in Europe, we were very unfairly treated, and exposed to several dangerous situations, not of our doing. But merely because of supposed "hatred" of our government. We were continually insulted. Finally we got the idea to say we were Canadian, and voila, problem solved. I would not for a moment entertain entering a third world country, where the masses are grossly uneducated and already angry at their status in life, more than likely spawned by a biased media against us as well. Get a clue.
You do have a point. Up until the less sophisticated part. I seem to remember a severe reaction from Americans to the French simply because of the stand of Jacques Chirac on the Iraq War. I shudder in shame to be lumped in with the other Americans who so idiotically referred to french fries and french toast as freedom fries and freedom toast. Bashing the French became an overnight fad. How embarassing on their parts to come up with such ridiculous names for two foods that have nothing to do with France. This instance does prove your point though, quite well. I just find it more to do with jumping on the bandwagon, than sophistication. Some Americans have been guilty of the very same ignorance that we are so quick to put on others. It was as if a long dislike for the French was given a chance to look like nationalism. It was nothing more than ignorance. The first people to this country were here to escape persecution for being different and sharing different beliefs. Why are so many(not all) so quick to shut out other's beliefs now? I hope my wording does not sound harsh as I am in agreement with your statement.
