Previously, I would have said because of the risk of birth defects.

However, these days pretty much half of kids are born outside of marriage anyway. So with the socialized norm of children being the product of marriage being already trashed by our tolerant and diverse society, marriage is pretty much left as a legal contract.

So on the basis of marriage mostly being about insurance, inheritance, and taxes I say sure go ahead and let anybody marry who wants to.

IF you need a marriage "license" (permission from government) you have no "right to marry."
IF you do not need a license (ex: common law marriage), you have a right to marry.

No, that post discusses why siblings should not reproduce with each other... since marriage is not required to have babies, nor is having babies required when you do marry, that argument doesn't hold water in terms of MARRIAGE.

And yes, we are talking about the government - seeing as marriage at this time is a government institution, and the OP asked about that (not if we think siblings should shag each other). If you want to discuss the issues of familial relations, that would be a whole different debate.
