Wait... you're actually admitting that Australia wouldn't take those who don't support themselves and pay their own way?

Priceless.

Sorry, but when you work your ass off and you're gouged for taxes for doing so at levels unmatched throughout the rest of the world, it builds resentment against the takers.

Not really. Im the U$. most of the rich are the takers-they take away from and exploit their workers and the lower and middle classes to reap their own corrupt wealth. Paying crap wages and slashing benefiits so the few can reap their profit. I worked my ass off in the U$ too, and where did it get me? Nothing but getting laid off after the company was sold to the highest bidder, or low wages for high wage type jobs. Here I get paid what I'm worth to my employer, which is how it should be. The US really is a sorry place

First, there is a lot of stealth spending in the federal budget that goes to middle class to rich people, that is labeled expenditures.

This kind of government spending is invisible and is rarely debated, but if the home mortgage tax deduction didn't exist, and the federal government proposed a government program to send checks to homeowners for being homeowners then there might be opposition to that wasteful spending.

Yet if the government hides this same spending in the form of tax expenditures then it's ok.

This kind of stealth government spending is throughout the tax code and it is usually the government subsidizing the lives of middle class to rich people.

Now specifically the tax deduction for parents is extremely logical and it is not difficult to understand this.

Governments and nation's have a HUGE interest in people having children. Children are a financial burden on their parents, but not only that children are the future tax payers, employers, etc that will keep the nation going into the future.

In fact whether one has children or not, you as a citizen will DEPEND on these children and babies in the future and without those children this nation would not exist in the future.

So of course parents should be subsidized that is a no brainer.

Do you even know where corporate wealth exists? Let's take a look...

"This shift of business ownership from rich people to working people may be the greatest economic transformation since the Industrial Revolution.

...So what does all this mean? Well, for starters, it should lead to an end of complaints about the profits of corporations and allegations about 'greedy corporations.' After all, much of that profit now goes toward the current and future retirement incomes of working people."

Read the entire linked article, and open your eyes.

Everyone who contributes to or benefits from a 401k, pension fund, mutual fund, annuity, or whole life insurance policy, etc., is an investor, en masse. And guess who one of the US's biggest investors is?

CalPERS, the California public employees union retirement system.

The tax system DOES generate revenue for the government. From that perspective it does work.

Otherwise it is a giant behavior modification system used by Congress to try to get us to do what they want us to do.

They want us to have children, buy homes, donate to charities, pay for education, and for some reason they want us to pay state taxes.

Deductions are a terrible way to set taxes.

Get rid of deductions. Lower tax rates so the change is revenue neutral.

Do you see a pattern to what they want???

They want to keep the money moving.

When you realize you are not taxed on what you make.....you are taxed on what you KEEP....you will know how the system can work for you.
