It was actually still more complex than that. The McGovernite wing that took over the Democratic party in the late 60's-early 70's did not play well in the South. Still Jimmy Carter swept the South as late as 1976. Then Reagan reclaimed it for the GOP in 1980. Bill Clinton also won the South in 1992. Most of the Southern segregationist Dems did not switch to the GOP; they remained lifelong dems. For example, JW Fulbright, Richard Russell, Robert & Harry Byrd, Sam Ervin. None of those switched.

Doubt it, but you right wingers need all the hope you can get.

In addition, most of those people are dead by now. The current crop of Republicans in the South have nothing to do with the old racism; they have problems, to be sure, but some sort of deeply-held white supremacism isn't one of them.

Fulbright lost the Democrat primary in 1974, he didn't need to switch, he was already replaced. Russell died in 1971. Robert Byrd is West Virginia's mistake and should never have served that long. Harry Byrd retired from the Senate in 1964 and died a year later. Sam Ervin left office in 1974.

None of these politicians needed to change parties because they were all replaced, except Robert Byrd who just played a politician by flip flopping his opinion based on what was popular at the time, the people of West Virginia should be ashamed that he served in office for so long.

What are you going to "win"? *More* Senate seats? Are you going to take back the House?

Remember even your beloved Nate Silver said he predicts we will win the Senate. We very well may not, but how would any realistic scenario involve a win for the left considering where the two sides are starting from?

No, I think we will see very little change in both the House and Senate. Yes, and I remember what Nate Silver predicted.

Prove your point?

Anything you read and wish to spin your way or ignore is what you call proving your point? Did you even look at the poll on this subject here on City-data? No? Because it indicates you to be totally wrong so you ignore it or call the participants liars when they don't react how you wish them to?

You have no proof or facts to back up you bias, so you just keep flapping your gums and spewing false statements. Typical liberal tactic, learned at Dear Leaders feet. If the facts don't fit, just lie and keep repeating the lie and maybe some idiot will someday believe it.

Have you stopped beating your wife yet? Same type of idiotic question assuming facts not in evidence.

Once again, typical.

ECSU appears to cost around $30k / year if you're out of state, and $20k / year if you're in-state.
Eastern Connecticut State University

i would suggest that his "customers'" ability to pay is a direct result of student loan access.

therefore this man's livelihood -- teaching college at Eastern Connecticut State -- is sustained at this point primarily by federally subsidized student loans.

I suspect his fear and anger towards republicans exists in part because they threaten the gravy train of student loan availability.

Haha, I have looked at the poll and not shocked that no one wanted to select close down universities, you guys just want to take away all federal funding for universities.

The rest of your post I'd just rude nonsense, you really need to calm down.
