For years, Williams had openly discussed his battle with depression and also with substance abuse. Board-certified neurologist Dr. Russell Blaylock believes that Williams' substance abuse — specifically his use of cocaine — was at the root of his Parkinson's disease. In fact, a major study has found that cocaine users are at much higher risk for the brain illness.

"Robin said in interviews that he used a lot of cocaine in his youth and for many years," Dr. Blaylock tells Newsmax Health. "Cocaine triggers excitotoxicity in the area of the brain pathological for Parkinson's disease (PD)."

Wrong.

Can cocaine abuse cause parkinsonism? [Am J Addict. 1997] - PubMed - NCBI

Its always nice how they they don't link the study. Included is the actual study about development later in life from those whose mother used cocaine while pregnant. NewMaxx are idiots.

Maybe a good hint should have been using a study from a children's hospital about adult drug abuse in a patient population they don't treat.

Parkinson's disease and cocaine abuse linked

Dude, I used to enjoy the news you posted but its quality has gone in the toilet.

Hmmmm................... Cocaine is a local anesthetic that prevents re-uptake of catecholamines (norepi and dopamine) as well as seratonin. Parkinsons is a disease of degeneration and cell death of the substantia nigra, which produces dopamine. Therefore, one would expect a decline in the symptoms of Parkinson's with cocaine (although one would never advocate that).

Oddly, there is a REDUCED incidence of Parkinson's with cigarette smoking. This is a notable fact that has been shown in several studies. Obviously, the cardiovascular and pulmonary consequences of smoking far outweigh the reduced incidence of Parkinson's.

I don't know if Cocaine contributed to his onset of Parkinson's, but I believe there have been studies that link anti-depressants with an increased risk of developing Parkinson's disease. Was Williams using anti-depressants, and did they cause his Parkinson's? Anti-depressants are also linked to suicidal thoughts, so the better question would be, did anti-depressants lead to his suicide?

Its possible. Nose Candy is just to much for me. I wanted it to badly after a short experimentation cycle back in my late teens.

Haven't played with it since, but I know its bad juju

It would be good to note that Russell Blaylock holds some views that range from unorthodox to batcrap insane. Including that people are being poisoned by as part of a conspiracy:

Vaccines
MSG
Aspartame
Splenda
Fluoridated water
Sucralose
Dental Amalgum
Cholesterol drugs
Pesticides
Aluminum cookware - including aluminum in any form
Chemtrails
Nano toxins sprayed by black helicopters
Government healthcare - in order to kill portions of the population, or put them into FEMA camps
The Soviets - because they made illegal drugs and engineered sexually transmitted diseases to destroy the US
The US government - Since they did all of this, even the conspiracy by the Soviets to bring down themselves

This guy has pretty obvious mental problems and it is sad they are using him to spew weird crap. Being a physician doesn't save people from the affects of age. It is also sad that people listen to him for health advice. He should be in treatment instead of being a mouthpiece for NewsMax's crazy BS.
