Seems to me that folks were more interested in having a bomb-free marathon than who won it. By the way, you are all wound up about the winner of this years Boston Marathon ... what was the name of last years winner? (I ask this between yawns).

Actually running a Marathon takes some long-term commitment.
Winning a major Marathon like that of Boston is a pretty serious athletic achievement.
I understand winning is a big deal. And I know it takes a serious commitment.

I'm not sure it's an athletic accomplishment but more like a health/stamina feat. Learning how to pace yourself, breathing, etc.

It's just lean on the strategy in comparison to other sports...even individual sports.

And again, so many people enter who have no chance at winning. That's fine and good for them. If they had one for the top 50 runners in the world then I could probably see more people getting into it.

To the topic at hand, I live in Boston so I can't say its been under-reported here.
I respect the stamina/commitment part but nearly anyone can do it if they in fact commit. That's my point. People wouldn't watch football if so many people could come within a reasonable distance to Peyton Manning's skill set.

I played football. No matter how hard I tried I wasn't going to make it.

I jog/run nearly every single day. Not as much as I used to but in my late 20s it was routine for me to knock out 10-12 miles. If I didn't have a job I'm sure I was in good enough shape to do a marathon. But it's just running.
