America's highways and bridges are falling apart and more money needs to be spent to upgrade them. How would you pay for it?
(apart from the kill other programs to fund it suggestion)

I would pay for rebuilding our public infrastructure by removing our troops and all other military support from the rest of the world. I would let those people settle their own differences as well as stop protecting our, as well as other country's investors, in the international oil or other business games. I think we should be making steel to build our own bridges and not tanks and other expensive toys. I would also forbid the use of imported materials in our rebuilding program.

The gas tax was supposed to be for roads. Put it back to that and we'll have money again.

You would operate steel mills???

What about the environment??

Where would the steel mills be built......don't forget the "not in my back yard" group.....or, would you take the land???

Restore the gas tax to it's original intent...for roads.
Too much of that tax has been diverted from roads.

Just like any other government "fund"..the elected officials just can't let idle money sit..it has to be spent on other important issues.

Totally agree.

They should start with all the mega-corps like Exxon-Mobil, Walmart, Apple, and the likes, who offshore their profits so they don't have to pay taxes, yet these are the people and entities that benefit the most from our Insterstate system.

It's about time we stop all the wealth redistribution, and let the wealthy pay their fair share of the tax burdon.

Great point, thanks for posting it.

I don't see why conservatives are upset about this... isn't this a states' rights issue? The feds are now telling the states they can run their interstates as they see fit, with no federal mandate to keep them all free. Presumably, this means tax-hating red states will NOT impose new tolls, and blue ones (which cons don't really care about, except to mock them) will.

Driller 1 -

The steel miles would probably be located where there was a good supply of iron ore, coal and limestone just like they always were. The mills would be owned by American investors and possibly the federal government and operated by the United Steelworkers of America. These mills would meet the current environmental standard already met by existing steel mills in the US. The NIMBY's would be ignored as they are with our current military operations.
