And …. it's been this way since 1776. I wonder why it's suddenly a problem now?
It's a "problem" now because the GOP's voting base is shrinking by the day, and they can't win elections any other way than to remove as many voters from the rolls as possible, while at the same time cutting back on early voting days, slashing polling hours and making it increasingly difficult for those who vote for their opponents to do so. How else can they overcome the demographics that are against them?
Prove it. Why do you people assume that elections are the one facet of government that is perfect when the rest is a giant SNAFU?
The problem is with voter registration rolls that aren't maintained in a manner consistent with modern American life where people state to state with great frequency. People aren't violating the laws of time and space by voting in NC, MD and VA in same election.
Again, voter ID seems like a good solution in the abstract. But no state that has been challenged in court has been able to argue that there is an actual problem in need of that solution.
Before going through that mass of garbage, my state offered free voter id to anyone and free transportation to get the id and there were complaints about people being disenfranchised. That's a automatic response with no merit.
It disenfranchises nobody. That's a ruse to avoid a responsibility and a standard.
As Happy Texan pointed out, 30 million people fraudulently in this country with a stake in elections.
It has been proven to disenfranchise people, and I see HistorianDude just provided the proof to you, yet I expect you to keep denying facts in your desperate attempt to violate the Constitution and swing elections you couldn't otherwise win.

Gee, ya think?
What's really entertaining is how they think we haven't figured it out yet.
Translation: Don't bug me with the actual evidence.
Nope.
I looked at what was posted, some, and it was slanted research which was used to validate the theoretical arguments. I provided an actual example where steps were taken to ensure there was no disenfranchisement and it was still claimed by people with the same theories as those that did this research. Care to comment on that? Just to refresh your memory on the example I used, here it is:

Please point out where the disenfranchisement lies in that plan.

What? You mean Conservatives are being disingenuous about the reason for these new spate of voter ID laws?
