Same deal in my neck of the woods.

Who read the meters the other 9 months?

Every year we get a letter from our insurer telling us NOT to hire anyone under 18.

I think you meant to say "parents" are there to take care of their children if they don't feel like working. There is nothing wrong with a kid not working an actual taxed job until later in their teen years. My buddy and I would mow lawns for a few of the neighbors for extra spending money when we were 14-16 yrs old. Kids should enjoy being a kid because we only get to do that for a short period in our lives.

Lawn mowing is controversial in my neck of the woods. Kids start out gun ho and as summer wears on they tend to become no shows. It creates unnecessary stress amongst neighbors. And kids charge as much as a professional providers do. Who wants to drop $39-50 a week and wonder if the kid is going to show for 30 minutes of highly

It's even more challenging to find kids willing to shovel/ plow snow.

None of the golf courses around here offer caddies. We used to just go and hang out at the pro shop and get maybe $4-5 caddying for 18 holes. But for $5 you could get 2 models (the plastic kind) a couple candy bars and a Coke.

Do people still sell worms and tadpoles at the marina for bait today?
A lot of kid jobs have been destroyed due to people suing.......it's not easy to ask a kid to do yard work, now you have to have insurance in case the child gets hurt. Along with people deciding jobs like newspaper delivery was dangerous for kids. We parents have created kids being lazy, not the government.

Also, how many of these kids live where jobs are few and far between or are attending summer school?

People who say this was probably always more conservative than they want to admit when they were younger. When I was younger, I was pretty liberal, as I have gotten older I have become more liberal.

Yeah, bet both posters eat beef and could use a good days work!

I'd rather pay the rancher for feeding his cattle, than some man collecting disability at 50 for a hurt back.

What if the guy collecting disability at 50 for hurt back was a rancher that hurt his back while feeding his cattle?
