This is a joke. If Americans don't want to live there, or support a family there, what makes the mayor think immigrants who don't speak the language will do any better, especially in a foreign land. If these people are allowed to immigrate here, they'll just come to Detroit, then off to another American city once they secure citizenship. They wouldn't stay.

Detroit is a once great city that Americans virtually threw away. Perhaps the Chinese see value where Americans see garbage?

Americans didn't throw away the city of Detroit---corrupt politicians did a ton of the damage with nonstop tax increases, not to mention a flaming racist of a mayor named Coleman Young who demolished the tax base by driving thousands of folks into the suburbs or out of the state altogether, which caused Detroit's tax base to evaporate, which led to nonstop tax increases in a clueless and futile attempt to replace the billions of dollars of revenue lost.

Toss in horrible schools and soaring crime rates, and it's no wonder that Detroit used to be the 4th largest city in the country once upon a time yert is on the verge of falling out of the top twenty as thriving and vibrant Midwest cities such as Columbus & Indianapolis blew by them population-wise rather easily and continue to grow.

There's no way of knowing whether or not the Chinese coming to this country can speak English, but history says that they do, judging by the manner in which they've been pouring into various thriving US cities starting with Houston, which is expected to pass Chicago (another liberal hellhole losing citizens in droves) in population within 20 years if current trends continue.

Finally, the asinine assertion that conservatives don't like the Chinese or the Japanese for that matter is absurd; if anybody has a problem with the fact that Asians routinely comprise some 40% of the freshmen classes at standout universities such as Stanford & UCLA among others, it's the Democrats.

The GOP promotes ambition, while the liberals promote victimhood and especially African-American liberals, excluding yours truly.

Chinese immigrants could save Detroit: governor

What Snyder plans is to allow Chinese people to buy houses in Detroit. He believes that the state government does not have to spend a penny to save the city because of the new immigration plan, which will benefit the city significantly.

Chinese Creating New Auto Niche Within Detroit

Dozens of companies from China are putting down roots in Detroit, part of the country's steady push into the American auto industry.

...
Last year, the biggest carmaker in China, Shanghai Automotive Industries, opened new offices in suburban Detroit without any publicity, which is almost unheard-of in an industry that thrives on media coverage.

...
In addition to Chinese companies locating in Detroit, a cottage industry of lawyers, accountants and corporate advisers has grown up to assist them. Their numbers are small now, but the impact of the Chinese on the local economy is slowly expanding.
This wouldn't surprise me at all. Many Chinese people have money and they are hardworking folks who are willing to take the long range view.

With Detroit real estate prices being so low, why not move to the land of the free where the air is clean?

I'd wager they'll make it a lot better, however. And pretty soon, too.

Taking this at face value, maybe that's why Detroit fell harder than the other rust belt cities. But, they all fell pretty hard. It's only been in the last 10-20 years that Americans are finally reinvesting in their "throw-away" cities like Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, etc.

Ooh, yet again the Fox "News" genuflecting is strong here.
The country lost manufacturing because the corporate right discovered dirt-cheap slave labor in third-world countries, and their republicon toadies in Congress continue to block jobs legislation.
With fear-driven politics, bleeding of jobs, and population expanding, fearful - and apparently unaware - suburbanites used the Detroit city limits as a fence to corral the remainder of Detroit's increasingly impoverished population. All the while over decades, the country was shedding manufacturing and becoming a more service-oriented society. Manufacturing towns got hurt and went through difficult times with painful and uncertain periods of restructuring and adapting. Detroit is in such a situation now.
As is usual with RW dittoheads - armed with strong feelings and zero actual knowledge of the situation, you apparently prefer to believe the self-verifying invectives of your preferred "news and information" media.
Seriously, do you know anything at all about the Detroit public and private sectors?
