Alright, I found this to be hilarious. A man named Leon Humphreys who lives in the town of Bury St Edmunds in England, UK is disputing that he has to pay a £25 fine for a minor motoring offense and instead is demanding the ancient rite of trial by combat. Mr Humphreys demanded that the court appoint a champion to represent the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) who would then fight to the death against Mr Humphreys to determine if he was truly guilty of the minor motoring offense. Mr Humphreys claimed that the rite of trial by combat still technically existed under British law even though it has not be used or even legally allowed for the better part of a millennium.
Her majesty's magistrate was not amused with the man's antics and ordered him to pay an additional fine of £200or find himself held in contempt.
Court refuses trial by combat - Telegraph
The best part of the article is this:
Quote:
Magistrates sitting at Bury St Edmunds on Friday had disagreed and instead of accepting his offer to take on a clerk from Swansea with "samurai swords, Ghurka knives or heavy hammers", fined him £200 with £100 costs.
Humphreys, an unemployed mechanic, was taken to court after refusing to pay the original £25 fixed penalty for failing to notify the DVLA that his Suzuki motorcycle was off the road.
