My comment was intended to point out the merit-less nature of the comment it was in reply to, reductio ad absurdum.
Yet, not in the way you imply. It's pitiful watching right-wingers try to use their own corrupt "logic" to rationalize their own corrupt contentions. Any measure of prevarication and/or excuse, to foster their own antisocial antipathies.
Yet I'm sure there is a comparison, between the British Redcoats and the Patriots standing shoulder to shoulder, willing to give their lives so their children could be free from the Kings oppression.
To prohibit those, does not violate the 2nd amendment.
Technically they do violate the 2nd. But there isn't a jury in the world who will convict a cop (or you) from taking those weapons away in those cases, so go ahead and take them.
The good news is, the obvious bad guys wind up without their weapons, but government is still flatly prohibited from manking ANY decisions on who can own and carry, and who can't. And so govt can't possibly abuse that power without it being very obvious.
Oh how a comma, can be taken out of a sentence and then make the sentence have a totally different meaning...
That comma still exists in the 2nd amendment.
A well regulated Militia,(comma) being necessary to the security of a free State,(comma) the right of the people to keep and bear Arms,(comma) shall not be infringed.
Pretty simple to understand the intent.
In other words to keep the People of each State, from being enslaved by an overbearing government centralized government.
Actually, the first and third commas you point out, were not in the version of the 2nd amendment that was sent to the states to ratify after the BOR was proposed. They were added later by a Committee for Prose and Style, or some such group, on the theory that they didn't change the meaning from what got ratified.
And since ratification is what makes something a law, the correct version has only one comma, the one after the word "State". Most publicized versions are wrong, since they were never ratified.

Wow!
That is a mouthful. I needed to grab my thesaurus to understand all of that fancy language. You must have got yourself some fancy education or learnin' and such.
Liberty and individual freedom is not "right wing" or "left wing"- it is our right and is the core of human nature.
If you crave increased government control and intervention at the expense of personal liberty, you are pining for life as a serf. Now why in the world would any rational being want a distant entity dictating aspects of their daily life?

"Since an armed and capable populace is necessary for security and freedom, the right of ordinary people to own and carry guns and other such weapons cannot be taken away or restricted."
It's very clear and straightforward, and doesn't need "clarifying".
The people who keep trying to pretend it says something else, are the ones who need "clarifying". The second amendment doesn't.
One of our early militia that trained here at Tracy Park in Portsmouth Ohio had a cannon bought by the militia leader which they trained on.They offered their service to the defense of the country and filled the breach of a woeful Uncle Sam's army during the Mexican American and Civil Wars. That very cannon that Col. Kinney bought still stands guard over Soldiers Circle at Greenlawn Cemetery to this day.My father's great grandfather served in Mexico & the Civil war with this militia the Portsmouth floodwall mural has a panel dedicated to their honorable service. They also had their own rifles & equipment which was superior to the U.S. army especially during the war with Spain in 1898.
