Troy Vincent used to say - in public and in private - that there were several gay players on the Eagles when he was there, and everyone on the team knew who they were. For that matter, so did my gay son, who went to college in Philly.

Currently residing in Philly is a man by the name of Dorian Bryant. He was a standout at Purdue, holds several Big 10 records and was signed by the Steelers, but later released for not passing the physical. He happens to be gay, and while playing for Purdue had 7 other teammates that were gay or bi-sexual, all closeted of course. Bryant also claims that two former Heisman Trophy winners are gay.

Changing sport, an article from a Philly news publication;
a recent Phillies player, a renowned womanizer, has been rumored to be quite interested in men. There are whispers in gay circles about him picking up men at Knock, a bar on Washington Square West, and taking them back to his condo. Phillies insiders still murmur about his bisexuality.

I will not mention who that player was, however he was not only a womanizer but married during the time the above happened. He was a key player in leading the Phillies to the 2008 WS.

It was marketing hype before the draft, it was marketing hype after the draft, and all the way along, anyone who knew football knew he was slim to none to make a team unless they run a 4-3 defense and all their other DE's died in a plane crash. Too bad, so sad.

He's a "speed rusher" that isn't very speedy (4.91 on his best day), not real strong (17 reps), average to below average athleticism, inconsistent tackler, and can't get off blocks from 3rd team players. Oh yeah, and he's too slow to contribute on special teams. So.....

He'd make a marginal practice squad player who could fill in during an emergency like I mention above, but he was never, ever worth one of 53 roster spots.

Everyone who knew Football knew he was never going to be an impact player, but there are plenty of guys who do know Football (NFL insiders) that believe he is as good as if not better then at least a few of the Defensive Linemen who currently are on a 53 man roster. He was only left of the Rams practice squad because Fisher needed other position players due to injury concerns. Do not assume that someday he may not find a home somewhere in the NFL, at least on a practice squad.

People need to understand that Sam is just a kid. He lacks the media experience to just keep his mouth shut just like a ton of other rookies have in the past, but unlike some of these other players, Sam had something to say that people for some reason actually care about. If Michael sam's career is going to be defined by his sexuality, then I hope he goes to a team where the city will embrace him like NY, SF, or Seattle.
You don't know what your talking about. Getting a sack against some 4th string dud olineman is not the same as facing a pro bowler every down.

17 reps and 4.91 speed = no roster spot for you.

If he gets a roster spot, it's because of one of two things:
  • catastrophic injuries and the team is out of backups, backup backups, and the kicker is scared to play DE
  • a team wants to do image repair by looking sensitive
That's it, that's all.

Slow is fine...if you're strong. Weak is fine...if you're fast.

Slow + weak is bad, especially when the NFL scouting report also says you're an inconsistent tackler, have no quickness on the snap, aren't an especially creative or athletic pass rusher and get your sacks fed to you by missed blocking assignments or other defenders forcing plays your direction, and that you cannot get off blocks.

He was cut for a good reason, and the talking heads in NFL-land are all saying he's great because they want to sound accepting and sensitive. If he's so great, he'd be on a roster. He isn't great, so he's currently unemployed. And we wouldn't be talking about him if he hadn't done his pre-draft parlor trick, because ask yourself when you ever talked about another 7th round pick that got cut and was unsigned by anyone else?

If he makes a roster...great. If he sees this post and steps up his game just to spite me...great. But right now, there's a pretty valid reason he's unemployed.

And go back and watch that play, and you'll see why the guy who gave up that sack is unemployed as well. I have a 5 year old nephew who could pass block better than Wallace did on that play. There's a reason Wallace was undrafted in 2013 and only played one game for the Browns and then got waived this year.
