students at school from 7 or 8 in the morning till 4:30 in the late afternoon would get mighty hungry waiting for a parent to drop by who works all day.
Most people that work all day 9-5, 8-4, etc. just have lunch while at work.
They usually have dinner after work either at home or dine out.
My company cafeteria never served dinner at 4pm to workers..they were done, finished and locked up by 3pm.
Both of my parents worked all day, my father even worked two jobs, and yet somehow they managed to either be home themselves or make sure someone else was there to feed me. But then, they were of a different generation, one that took their parental responsibilities seriously.
just because your parents were able to do so doesn't make it so for all parents.

Deny it all you want.....this great country is dying a slow death by a trillion paper cuts.
My mom used to pick me up at 6 pm because she worked until 5:30 (my dad worked until 7:30). By the time I got home and she cooked, it was 7:30-8:00 pm. I could see where this is helpful.

Next it will be warm beds so they can have a decent night sleep.
Believe me, it does if an adult can manage to be responsible.
