We are talking about a human life. Please no more deflecting.
Once a criminal chooses to take action, they are preying on the weak or at least they think they are. I have more respect for a wild animal. They are just working on instinct and have no ability to reason. When a human preys on the weak in any fashion they are making a choice and in this case, they made the wrong one.
The homeowner is a lunatic, no doubt about that. The world has many such people. The teen was a burglar who had no respect for other peoples property. Lunatic meets burglar.
We cam all say "well if the homeowner didn't set a trap, or if the owner locked his doors, or whatever." The glaring truth in this sad tale is that the teen put himself in harms way by choosing to be a thief. Eventually his father will have to accept that he raised a criminal. Crime can be a dangerous occupation.
The homeowner will no doubt be found guilty and jailed. Society will be better for it. Society is always better when criminals meet their fate.
Indeed. And by no means am I advocating or supporting what the guy did, because maybe there was a better way. However; the reality is that you take a serious risk when you trespass, or burglarize someone elses property, and the consequences could be deadly. In short it's best not to tempt fate, and I will make sure that my son the older he gets, knows this as well.
I can tell you this, I wouldn't have blindly shot, because I feel that if you're going take the life of another there had better be a damn good reason for doing so. Now, if this cat was in my home, perhaps it would be a different story. Because if they're in your house with you or your family in there, you don't know their intentions. Other that they don't belong there.

Agreed. If it had been my garage I would have put the dog on him. I would never shot in the blind. Who knows it might be a runaway who seriously means no harm and is just trying to seek shelter. At the very least I would have called out and told them to get out of my garage.
The teen. His actions are what caused his death.Plain and simple. If you don't want to be shot like a thief in the night then don't act one.
"The early bird gets the worm, but the 2nd mouse gets the cheese!"
In this case the worms get the mouse.
Crime is a dangerous occupation. I have 0 sympathy for criminals
