OK - I'm confused. Do people want energy that does not affect the environment, or do they want a nice view? If we are going to die from global warming/climate change - who cares what the landscape looks like?

In the UK...

End to solar farm blight as subsidy scheme is scrapped

Subsidies that have driven the spread of large solar farms across Britain are to be scrapped under plans to stop the panels blighting the countryside.

...
The decision follows an admission by ministers that far more projects have been built than expected, leading to an rising subsidy bill for consumers and increasing local opposition.

Greg Barker, the energy minister, pledged last month that solar farms must not become "the new onshore wind" and said he wanted solar panels installed on factory rooftops instead.

Although a separate, new subsidy scheme will be made available to large solar farms, it is expected to be far more difficult for solar farms to gain funding under the new regime.

OK - now I get it. They are paying out more money than they want - so I guess the landscape issue is a cover to keep from issuing more subsidies.

Ha - this stuff is expensive, isn't it...

Responding to your question - "Is this stuff is expensive?"

  • Went solar power September 2012 - after all the rebates final cost was £2832 ($4800). With a 25 year warranty.
  • Electric bill before solar power per month was £142 ($240)....
  • Looking at recent electric bills £6.44. A worthwhile investment...
