Blacks are a minority in Metro Detroit. Whites need those manufacturing jobs just as bad as blacks do. Go in any auto plant in or out of the city, and they're staffed by whites in majority numbers. Don't lose sight of that.
Now I agree that the jubilation of lots of these posters has to do with their perception that bringing in 50k Chinese would hurt or humiliate blacks...but that's not the case. White people in Southeastern Michigan would RIOT at the idea of 50k Chinese moving into Metro Detroit to take manufacturing jobs that Americans should be doing. It won't fly.
As to your notions about liberal this and liberal that...save it. I'm not interested..
What does "Metro Detroit" mean?
The 2010 Census says the city of Detroit was 82.7% African American.
The 2010 Census says the city of Detroit was 82.7% African American.
It means the same thing as Metro Houston, Metro New York, Metro Phoenix, Metro Los Angeles, Metro Portland, Metro Seattle, Metro Charleston, Metro Atlanta, Metro Indianapolis, Metro Cleveland, Metro St. Louis...
Hell, even Metro effin' Timbuktu...get it?
It's short for the Detroit Metropolitan Area.
Damn. I can't even believe someone asked me something so silly.

I think you folks are under the false assumption that these Chines companies are going to hire Americans.
They might for some of the menial work but for the most part they will bring their own people over.
I cannot find a legit link to this exact story, but a friend of mine from Detroit (Highland Park) told me that Shanghai Motors (Chinese version of GM) has built a headquarters in Detroit and is planning on starting auto production of Chinese cars and the Gov of MI is going to try to get 50,000 work visas for Chinese workers.
Has anyone else heard about this? I cannot believe our government would allow this given the amount of unemployed citizens we have right here.
Maybe it's not even true but here is a link that tells part of the story.
In between 50,000 visas and they pay tax here and 50,000 jobs open up in Mexico (GM), I will takes the 50,000 visa any day of the week.
To be honest, if US workers are competitive (they are not), then it is not an issue.
Here is what US workers want, join a union and demand 40 hours pay for 25 to 30 hours work. Tenure after 1 to 3 years. Company funded pension plan, etc.
EB2 visa requires an advanced degree (bachelor's degree or higher). I don't think it is just for "Chinese workers".
The governor wants the city of Detroit to get 50,000 special EB2 visas (people with advanced degrees, master's or higher) which would specifically only be good in the city of Detroit. I.E. he's trying to attract foreign immigrants with advanced degrees especially from China and India in the hopes that they will either work for subsidiaries of foreign owned businesses or set up their own businesses. I do know lots of Chinese companies (many are state owned) in the auto industry want to set up shop in Detroit so why not?

That's how China operates.
So, not having those jobs in Detroit at all is preferable?
You know how many supply/service businesses can be supported by one manufacturing plant? Lots. Who do you suppose those supply/service businesses will hire? Local folks.
It's a win-win.
Would it be better still if whatever industry (the Shanghai motors thing is from from concrete) hired local folks to staff the plant? Absolutely. Is it an all-or-nothing proposition? There's no way in h*ll it should be, no.
I remember in the 1980's when folks were saying the exact same thing about Japanese companies, that they'd move here but bring their own people and they'd never hire Americans. How did that turn out?
