I often send my kid off with a PB&J and chocolate milk in her lunchbag, along with a piece of fruit. Sometimes a small bag of cashews and raisins or Doritos for snack time. She's happy and healthy!

How about 1% low fat chocolate milk?
Dairy fat is one of the few available sources of conjugated linoleic acid.

"Conjugated linoleic acid refers to a group of chemicals found in the fatty acid linoleic acid. Dairy products and beef are the major dietary sources.

Conjugated linoleic acid is used for cancer, “hardening of the arteries” (atherosclerosis), obesity, weight loss caused by chronic disease, bodybuilding, and limiting food allergy reactions.

An average diet supplies 15-174 mg of conjugated linoleic acid daily.

How does it work?

Conjugated linoleic acid might help reduce body fat deposits and improve immune function.

Bodybuilding.com - CLA: Conjugated Linoleic Acid Research

"Kangaroo meat may have the highest concentration of CLA. Food products from grass-fed ruminants (e.g. mutton and beef) are good sources of CLA, and contain much more of it than those from grain-fed animals. In fact, meat and dairy products from grass-fed animals can produce 300-500% more CLA than those of cattle fed the usual diet of 50% hay and silage, and 50% grain.

I just ate two slices of plain toast with peanut butter, and a glass of grass fed half 'n' half (unhomogenized).

It'll probably get me through the day.

why do people care? eliminating chocolate milk from school cafeteria is really not a big deal. milk is cheaper than chocolate milk so that's a plus. and you can still bring it if you want. should a school cafe provide everything YOU want them to?

^^Although you have a point, bradykp, I don't think it matters the other way either. Kids usually outgrow their interest in chocolate milk by middle school, anyway.

We can agree!

My daughter and myself have never enjoyed milk.
Maybe in a bowl of cereal, but that's it.

Several schools already tried this and the kids didn't just switch..they stopped drinking milk.
So the schools went back to chocolate milk.
Over 70% of the milk students drink in elementary/secondary schools is flavored milk (chocolate/strawberry).

Go google it..Oregon did it in their schools and then went back.

A study was done across the US in 58 elementary/secondary schools.
When only white milk was offered consumption dropped 35-50%.
They altered the days when flavored milk was offered and consumption went up with the flavored milk.

This study was done in 2010.
Milk Consumption In Schools Dropped Dramatically When Flavored Milk Options Not Offered, New Study Revealed

Why is it a big deal? Because it's another step towards insanity. I started school in the early 70s. All my school years we had a choice of milk, chocolate milk, or water to drink with lunch. We had some meals so fatty you could see the grease and it added flavor. We enjoyed our square slice of pizza, hot dog, or burger. Sometimes we'd get a three layer grilled cheese sandwich made with butter, no imitation butter. We also had mustard greens cooked with bacon. Local taste was considered with dishes like crawfish étouffée, red beans and rice, and fried catfish. Very few of our class was fat.
