For all the white liberals out there that insist that gay marriage is the same as the
civil rights blacks were fighting for is dead wrong. Even the black community has said it.
Is marriage the most practical legal accommodation available to same-sex couples who want to play house together with real babies?
I think I found the bottom line of many people's opposition to marriage equality, as articulated by the comment above. The bottom line is they don't recognize or respect any kind of family or relationship that isn't heterosexual. Gays and lesbians don't have families or have established and are in committed nurturing relationships ... they are just playing house together! With real babies yet!!
Well, here's my opinion. If you think that gay folks are just "playing house" and do not deserve recognition, equal rights, or justice ... then I will suggest your view is nothing more than ignorance and prejudice. It's a free country and you can be a bigot if you want, but don't expect the majority of Americans to side with you and certainly not the courts.
that last line is a bunch of bs. Gay"rights" meaning marriage, because that's the only thing they're really denied. To compare that to the civil rights era and what those folks were denied and how they were treated is disrespectful, delusional, and disgusting.
Exactly. Its not like gays are being made to sit in the back of the bus, or in a separate space in a movie theater or only allowed to use their own water fountains or bathrooms. Nobody is stopping gays from making love or having a relationship.
Wonder what's with the big emphasis on black pastors being against gay marriage? is them disagreeing gay marriage any different from white pastors? Should irish/italian pastors/priests who disagree with gay marriage know better too, considering the discrimination they faced in the past?
Don't get me wrong, I'm an atheist who's for gay marriage, but I don't get the whole singling out a group of people for what almost everybody who follows Christianity disagrees with
It's a thinly veiled (and pretty transparently racist, I might add) attempt by right-wing whites to divide the Democratic coalition, plain and simple.

Well said. The willful, malicious ignorance here is astounding, and disgusting.
