It's leading some to ask: Wouldn't castration be a better use of our money from a cost-benefit standpoint?

If we end up paying for their HIV treatments, it would save us money to help prevent the spread of it.

What a waste of the US tax papers money.

Things like this is why I will do what it takes NOT to pay taxes.....I will continue to spend my money myself.

True, but I find it sad and troubling that we have to look at it that way. Is there any limit on the amount of money we should spend to help people in other countries?

NPR did a feature on this issue a week or so ago. Pilot programs have shown a dramatic decline in HIV transmission rates after the circumcisions. The estimated cost of this particular program is a drop in the bucket compared to the cost of not doing it. Any suggestion of castration is offensive.

For whom? The USGOV is not responsible for Swazilanders medical bills.

The U.S. Government, through several Presidental administrations, representing both political parties, has, as a means of foreign and humanitarian aid, provided funding for countries in Africa to purchase/distribute pharmaceuticals designed to treat people who are HIV positive and/or who suffer from full-blown AIDS. Likewise, charitable organizations provide millions of $ yearly for the same purpose. Reducing the need for that treatment funding by reducing the risk of transmission will allow taxpayer and donor monies to be used for other equally as worthwile and needed causes/problems.
