"Militants from the radical jihadist group the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria have set fire to a 1,800-year-old church in Iraq’s second largest city of Mosul, a photo released Saturday shows.
The burning of the church is the latest in a series of destruction of Christian property in Mosul, which was taken by the Islamist rebels last month, along with other swathes of Iraqi territory.
To be fair the Christian population was well over 1 million while Saddam was in power and for the most part they weren't bothered. The 2003 invasion has lead to nothing but trouble in that country. So much for spreading "Freedom."

Absolutely, since the Shia took control, with our help, the Christians started to be killed without any fear of retaliation from Saddam, and now this brand of the Sunnis is even worse. In religious terms, the closer a Christian gets to the Author of his faith (God), the more righteous he is, while the closer a Muslim gets to the author of his faith (Satan), the more evil he becomes.
Yes, the Bush Admin. was wrong to depose Saddam Hussein. There were plenty of people who felt that way at the time, including myself. However, it was done and there's no turning back time. Obama is not off the hook for his absolute failure to get a status of forces agreement in place and just leaving Iraq to their own devices. He forgot Colin Powell's Pottery Barn analogy - you break it, you own it.
I feel like we learned absolutely nothing from the 20th Century, and here we are 100 years from the beginning of World War I and it seems like we're about to enter into another generation of war. I so hope that's not the case, as I have an adolescent son. Things are not looking good, and we've had two back-to-back bad leaders that brought us to this place. Maybe if John McCain would have followed Bush, he would have made sure Iraq didn't get chaotic. I wasn't his biggest fan, but in light of what is happening now I think he may have been the better choice.

Sadam would not retaliate for Christians being killed, he suppressed everyone, which meant that everyone kept their heads down.
That's not any more virtuous than the situation now.
