The President today declared the Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks National Monument in New Mexico. There have been past attempts to protect the area, most notably by the BLM with the selection of eight “wilderness study areas,” meant to be a holding category so that Congress can designate them full scale Wilderness areas. There are Republican bills before Congress to repeal the President’s authority to declare national monuments, but local public opinion strongly favors the monument — 83% in Doña Ana County and 82% statewide.

So now transfering Federally owned land from one department of the government to another is a "land grab"? Do you wing nuts ever stop and listen to how crazy you sound?

That is good, always like it when I see our country preserving its natural land. We don't need to develop and mine every inch of our country.

But didn't you know that mountaintop removal mining actually improves the landscape?

And some people like having the flat land. Some of it apparently has become quite valuable when it's become flattened.

I used to ride my quad through there when I lived in NM.

Now they can't. Even Border Patrol can't drive through there. Your idiot in the WH just opened up a corridor for drugs and illegal aliens.

Who will proceed to trash the area with their garbage.

How do I know this? I have seen it with my own eyes.

So what was once opened to the public is now extremely restricted.

I have seen some shows where they go out into the desert and haul in all the trash that people leave there and i doubt they were illegals.

National monument designation does not mean you can't ride quads. That is a wilderness designation and generally that is not applied to lands where roads already exist and usually pretty inaccessible out here in the west. National monument actually means it will be open to the public for recreation and not sold off or leased to special interests that restrict access. They won't put in new roads and they may close some of the lesser used more sensitive areas. I ride on National monument areas all the time.
