So would you rather live in Plano, TX or the "off limit" zone of Paris? Their homicide rates are 0.9 and 19.0 respectively.

You are so right. I just heard the heartbreaking outburst from the dad who has all the right to be angry and we can only feel for him but the 3 roommates were stabbed to death, so no more kitchen knifes and no more cars since other victims were hit by the murderers car!

This clearly showed that a gun is not needed to make multiple crime scenes.

My question is why did a guy who had daily therapy ever could get a gun! Why didn't the parents remove the guns...but that aside what can be done to prevent someone to use his car as a weapon and that is going daily when people drive under the influence of drugs and/alcohol.

Way more death on the road but I don't hear anything about that and people driving on suspended licenses and illegals staying here and raping people or committing other crimes.

UCSB shooting victim’s father: Blame NRA and “craven” politicians - Salon.com

At a press conference earlier today, a self-identified father of one of the victims in last night’s mass shooting near the University of California, Santa Barbara, named his son, Chris Martinez, as one of the victims. In a heart-wrenching statement the father, Richard Martinez, expressed his profound sadness. His 20-year-old son was on his way to a market when he was killed.

“Why did Chris die?” Richard Martinez said at a press conference. “Chris died because of craven, irresponsible politicians and the NRA. They talk about gun rights, what about Chris’ right to live? When will this insanity stop?”

I feel for him, but he's going after the wrong people.

Because he went to the store and bought the guns. You know, he had a right to be one of the "good guys" that should be armed.

Were the roommates and their parents made aware of the murderers daily therapist sessions since IMO if someone needs that daily or weekly there is clearly a lot wrong with that person and other living with that person should have the right to know.

The parents of the murderer can claim they reached out but this is part of reaching out and it is called "disclosing" .

I have a College kid and he had this year a weird roommate that made us worry although our son just stated he is weird but nowadays weird can be dangerous.

The roommate did nothing than playing video games almost 24/7 and didn't go the class. Drinking soda all day and night and the sound of the games was the cause my son couldn't sleep well but he didn't want to get into a confrontation.

The roommate failed of course all year and after the first semester his parents made him go to class more but that was only for approx. 2-3 weeks and it stopped again.

The school doesn't look into kids not attending school since they will get the same amount of school money for education and the room so why would they care....

The population of Canada is roughly that of California. Yes, when people are far spread out you will have fewer problems.

Why?

Why not ask why when you look at rural areas in our country, areas that often have the most lax controls on guns, they have crime rates similar to those of industrialised countries with strict gun control?

He didn't live with the parents. He was an adult. It seems that the parents tried to take actions but the authorities said "nothing to see here, he's a good guy".

Few want to address the actions that perhaps could have stopped this, they prefer to push their partisan politics.

Santa Barbara County Sheriff Bill Brown said on Saturday that police had conducted a 'welfare check' on 22-year-old Rodger on April 30.

The Sheriff is not the proper way to do a welfare check.

Correct because I don't see families crying that we need to go after the automobile industry when their loved ones die because of a drunk driver. but this is california the land of fruits and nuts.

What report are you citing for this?

This is patently false. Many of Americas rural communities have become beset by crime and the emergence of endemic poverty. There are rural, white areas with exceptionally high crime rates, surpassing that of even some inner city neighborhoods.

America has 100%+ more guns per capita than any other first world country, including Switzerland. The Swiss government does not just hand out guns.

To understand Swiss law you would have to be proficient in French or German, but that would likely be a tall order for a group of people (gun owners) that are rather uncultured and have low degrees of education compared to people with similar income levels.

He could just as easily rail against violent video games and entertainment , the mental health industry, bad police work and over indulgent parenting not to mention societal decay leading to acts of evil. Mentioning the NRA was probably only justifiable in the greater context of gun violence and they don't rank above any of the other factors mentioned.
Three people shot, three people stabbed, one person hit deliberately with a car. One suicide.
Millions of gun owners not involved.
