Well, just for starters, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings was on the NYT bestseller list for two years in the 70's. I guess if someone lives under a rock, she's a virtual unknown.
I thought this forum was supposed to be a cut above P&OC where facts are determined by whose politics you follow?

The world is larger and includes more people than who makes a NYT list. Most of the world does not live in New York or read their local papers.

Um, the New York Times bestseller list is a list of the highest selling books nationally.

She was a very good writer, and yes, people who have enjoyed her writings do care.
