"The policy of the United States, to never offer remuneration for the return of captured personnel, serves as a deterrent to hostage-takers and is one of the keys to protecting our service members."
Was he sightseeing in a war zone or going to take a few pictures with his Taliban buddies?
I think I need to reserve judgement on this one. I know how some people I know are feeling about this and it is not good. Democrat and Republician friends on this one are seeing eye to eye which is unbelievable.
They too had sons that also served. So this is not sitting well with them.
More pertinent facts are needed. But if what many say are true about Bergdhal being a deserter, and there were deaths because of him, this sure as hell does not sit well with me in any way shape or form.
If Soldiers lost their life, while looking for a deserter, how is this good. I cannot see many confirming the same story that would be a lie.
It says he's a captive of our enemy with whom we are at war. Again, with the parsing. What do you think the definition of a Prisoner of War is? Could it be, a person who is being held captive by our enemy with whom we are at war?
The Taliban were calling him a Prisoner of War, and telling us that he was being treated in accordance with the treaties they are party to that outline how prisoners of war will be treated.
So the Taliban is calling him a Prisoner of War.
And the Pentagon's Deparment for the Defense of Prisoners of War/Missing Personnel, is involved with negotiating his release from his captors, and you want to argue about his status?????
Play political football much with the lives of American soldiers held prisoner by our enemies?

So, you think Bergdahl should have been left behind?
Ummmm............he wasn't listed by the DOD as a POW. Rightly so. He wasn't a POW. AND he left a note denouncing his citizenship.
Plenty of evidence out there that he was NOT a POW
The punk was a deserter and his actions caused at least 6 soldier deaths during their attempts to find him and who knows how many future deaths at the hands of these 5 Taliban leaders that were exchanged.
NO ONE says they should have tried to get him returned. It's the price that was paid to get it done that is the problem. Besides, it was ILLEGALLY done by the administration
