The agreement he signed with congress gave him the authority to forgo the 30 day notice to congress if there was eminent danger to the captive or an immediate medical condition. the president used the medical condition to call for his immediate release. He was admitted to a military hospital in Germany in serious condition.
Those 5 Mujs are cooling their heels in a qatar jail cell for the next year. When they get out, we will have left the Stan except for a small force to train the Afghan forces.

BS. This didnt just pop up. They've been in discussions for longer than a month. And how did they know his condition? They didnt meat with him. After 5 years, it just so happens at a time Obama needs another distraction the most, this guy suddenly has serious medical conditions that couldnt wait another few weeks? Facts matter and clearly you'd rather use name-calling than facts. I asked a simple question: Where is the proof that Bergdahl even knew how to build bombs? That is not "defending everything and anything Obama does." That is a quest to get at the truth and not buy into every rumor spilled on the internet.
Finally, several prominent democrats, including Senators Feinstein and Blumenthal among others, are criticizing Obama for trading GITMO prisoners for this soldier without consulting them. It isn't just republicans angry with the president for not following the law of the land. Finally, this may be the straw that broke the camel's back as far as Obama negating the power/responsibility of our legislative branch and they start fighting back. I sure hope so.
