The key factor that makes Asians the so-called "model minority" is selective immigration.
Asian immigrants to the U.S. are drawn disproportionately from the elite of their home societies. They often come to the U.S. with high levels of education, business experience, and other advantages. None of that is to say they do not work hard. Just that Asian-American immigrants are not usually "average" members of their home societies. For exmple, only relatively well-off Indians get to study in the U.S. Poor Indians stay in India.
Of course, many people in the U.S. fail to grasp this, because it has to do with social class. Discussion of social class has been pretty taboo in the U.S. until fairly recently. For Americans, everything is always about race. So, people often assume the key to Asians' relative success is due to some kind of racial or cultural superiority. It isn't. It has more to do with selective immigration.
Of all the inmates in prison that are gang members (prior to incarceration), Asians make up the smallest group by far. Why is this? We all know Asian gangs exist on a scale similar to those of black and hispanic gangs in urban strongholds, yet their numbers in lock-up are significantly lower than any other demographic. What makes this so?

Asian gangs barley exist. Most Asian gangs are made of south east Asians which don't make up much of the us population.
So that gang member and others similar to him are coming from the poorer, less educated segment of the Asian population?
Yes. The model minority thing is highly selective, and a myth. There is no such thing as an "Asian Model Minority". Most of these "model minorities" that Anglos like are 99% Chinese, Korean, or Japanese. What about the Hmong, Vietnamese, Filipinos, Laotians, Cambodians, that come here in very large numbers? Many here have low education and/or limited financial resources.

Exactly. I would say the same holds true for African immigrants. Many whites look down on African-Americans and like African immigrants because of a perceived notion that African immigrants are "better". Well, they come from pretty crappy countries, enough said.

Demographics. For every Asian that lives here, that's like 10 Hispanics and blacks. It's a numbers game.

^^
When whites think of Asians, they always think of Chinese, Koreans, and Japanese. These people are Asia's Western Europeans. They forget about Southeast Asia, which is like Asia's Eastern Europe; the less developed and successful countries of their respective regions.

You are correct to an extent, and I misspoke. I should have addressed this as per capita. This can also go to address those Asians involved with organized crime.
That guy in the video was Vietnamese. But Chinese-Americans also have their issues with gangs.
I've seen this guy on tv a few times talking about Chinatown:

The Chinatown Bill Lee knew as a boy was ruled by gangs. Guys were beaten to a pulp for looking at someone the wrong way. Conflicts were resolved by threats and violence.
Twenty-five years later, Lee says, not much has changed in the Chinese underworld. Only the faces are new, as more and more Asian youth are lured into the gang life. Inside Chinatown's gangs - SFGate
