As a quad copter owner/pilot that "D" word is not one we like to hear.
Why you ask? Well, thanks to what UAV's (Unmanned Arial Vehicles) have been used for up to this point the term "Drone" puts a bad connotation on Quad,Hex and Octocopters. People immediately conjure up visions of spying, death raining down from the skies via missiles, perverts etc.
People immediately think BAD,BAD,evil when they hear the term "drone".
These Quad/Hex/Octo's can be used for very helpful things one being SAR (Search and Rescue) the other is farming, real estate, mapping, filming and many others. Quads can be used to drop medical supplies to an injured person until human help can arrive, search landslides for survivors when people can't walk on it or chase birds off of runways, fields and buildings. It can go over places that first responders can't go due to excessive risk like a commercial fire. So what if you lose a 'copter? Easier than replacing some first responders!
Some are just inexpensive toys, heck even Verizon is selling one on their website controlled by a smart phone now but some of them run into the thousands of dollars and carry movie/full size still cameras or beer in one case.
Mine is a middle/lower end and I've got over $1500 into it right now and counting, I'm just cringing every time I try to explain that NO it's not a DRONE
for surveillance or dropping missiles.
