Some are saying that it took days before there were any questions about Bergdahl's status. While the White House was trying to present this as a "Happy Day", we got our soldier who "served with honor and distinction" back - the Pentagon was tamping down the National Security questions and the Bergdahl status questions.

First ..... it did't "take 2 days" for questions. The Rose Garden Ceremony was Saturday afternoon and there were tons of reports and questions on the Sunday morning talk shows about Bergdahl's possible status as a 'deserter' and questions about Congress not being informed and the "negotiate with Terrorist" issues.

Hagel was all over the news saying "he suffered enough" when asked about deserter status and punishment. He was also saying this was a "health issue" and we now know that was a LIE.

This is from Sunday morning after the Rose Garden Ceremony -

A senior U.S. official told The Associated Press that the Army would make the decision on any charges but that the feeling at the moment was that Bergdahl had suffered enough in his ordeal. All the officials who discussed details of Bergdahl's transfer insisted on anonymity because they were not authorized to be identified.

and this from yesterday - BBC News
The Pentagon says Bergdahl, 28, is in a stable condition at the U.S. Army's Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany. Officials have indicated there is little desire to pursue any disciplinary action against him given what he has been through.

Those 2 are about Secretary of Defense, Hagel.

The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, General Dempsey started by soft pedaling any further 'investigation' into Bergdahl's "missing from base", but got so much push-back that he is now saying their will be another AR15-6 investigation. The AR-15 investigation they did in 2009-10 concluded he left base voluntarily (no POW), the only reason Bergdahl was not classified as a "Deserter" is because they have to actually ask him why he left before that classification can be made. They were more concerned at the time that he was giving information to the Taliban, due to his anti-American statements, the letter he left, the emails he sent home AND the Big increase in IED attacks and ambushes that happening after he went AWOL.

There are reports that Bergdahl is being interrogated, also reports that he has no lawyer. What that boils down to is that anything he says without a lawyer present can't be used against him. The interrogators are fully aware of this - it would be an embarrassment to Obama to Court Martial Bergdahl and that's probably why it won't happen. They never expected the men who signed those "non-disclosure" forms to violate them, but that's what happened. At the end of the Day - the "Commander in Chief has the final word and he won't want to be further embarrassed. The White House attitude (according to TIME & the Wall Street Journal) is .....

"Suck it up and Salute"

This is not going to turn out well. The Army, the entire Military is going to have a major problem if they just pat Bergdahl on the head, give him his Military Pay & Benefits and send him on his merry way.

The Army did a complete (other than testimony from Bergdahl) AR15-6 investigation in 2009, completed in 2010. It is classified and (so far) the Army is refusing to release it to Congress.

They "interviewed" everyone who had ANY contact with Bergdahl, including Afghans. Members of Bergdahl's platoon and Unit have reported that they were interviewed over and over again and then forced to sign the non-disclosure agreements. They stopped all operations in most of Afghanistan to search for Bergdahl for weeks and even months.

Indications are that there will be no "Court Martial" - it's going to be a problem.

WH official SPIN woman says 30 days was just too long so heck with it.

Quote:
She doesn’t get any better when trying to explain why the Obama administration never notified Congress. Despite getting two openings to confirm the latest spin that they ignored the law because of the supposed threat to Bergdahl if the deal went public, Rice instead says that the 30-day notification was too long a time frame — so they just ignored it altogether:
We had reason to be concerned about his life, but we also had reason to be concerned that the 30-day period that would normally be honored was too long, that had we waited that long we may have well missed what General Dempsey has called “the last, best opportunity” to bring him back.
They broke the law because they just CHOSE TO DO SO. The law they passed, he signed was clearly friggin broken. It doesnt matter if it was their best opportunity to get him back. That is NOT how laws work!!! You had 5 damn years. You had several years to do it right since the law was passed. Its disgusting how some of you will defend breaking the law here. You cant just say, well that's just too long a time so we just did it how we wanted to. Its an admission of guilt right there and they just dont give a damn.

To add to this:

Quote:
Wait, what? The administration could have notified Congress of this deal any time before the deal took place, and explained that it developed too fast to make the 30-day cutoff — which, if you parse Rice’s statement closely, she isn’t actually claiming anyway. If that’s the case, then give two weeks’ notice, or one week, or whatever the timeframe is, noting the exigent circumstances. They had enough lead time to make sure the Bergdahls showed up in the Rose Garden for the big speech and photo op on Saturday, but didn’t bother formally notifying the relevant Congressional leadership until that day or later — more than 48 hours later for Dianne Feinstein and Mike Rogers, who chair the intel committees.

So it wasn’t about Bergdahl’s declining health, or Taliban death threats, or a need for instantaneous exchange (which would be an impossibility anyway). Rice’s statement confirms that they didn’t notify Congress because they just didn’t much feel like it.

Why does the White House have her doing interviews?

That's really an informative article! Thanks for posting it. I never would have guessed that so many military personnel become deserters. Great explanation of the differences between AWOL and desertion, too.

Default Deranged Reactions to Sgt Bowe

I think this feed from "Bob" about best sums up what is wrong with the deranged elements of the country. People manipulated and deluded by hate and fear. This has been a frequent topic of a few articles (//www.city-data.com/forum/polit...-fox-news.html) in the past, but hasn't been shown as concisely as this one twitter feed.

https://twitter.com/MattOrtega/statu...70582683758592

It is even seen by other parts of the GOP as the fringe takes over (//www.city-data.com/forum/polit...-i-joined.html) from the moderates that are labeled RINO's and cast out. They are moving from a party that represented a different view, to the fringes of America. They are becoming the new Know Nothings and Birchers for the modern age, and losing relevance by denying reality itself.

Interesting that the conservative god Charles Krauthammer, despite his distaste for Obama, is supporting Obama's decision while all the whiners and haters call for Obama's impeachment.

Interesting that we dont all think alike all the time..... what a concept!

It doesnt change how a law that Obama signed was broken, because they felt like it.
