Deserter: On 31st day of AWOL, a soldier is "dropped from the rolls" and administratively marked as a deserter"

He was suppose to be at his lookout post the next morning.
He was nowhere to be found, and had left behind all his military stuff.

If you are using the analogy Mother Jones uses, he didn't just skip a class,
he dropped out of school

But, apparently you can’t have desertion without intent.

So when they question him (with counsel of course) is he going to say he simply didn't believe
in the war anymore, or is he going to use this excuse:

Afghan intelligence think Bergdahl was ‘probably high’ when he left base | New York Post

“We think he probably was high after smoking hashish,” Ibrahim Manikhel, the district’s intelligence chief, told the Washignton Post.
“Why would an American want to find the Taliban?”

Yep. Getting high is right up there with the Twinkie defense

You're trying hard to make an official 'deserter' label come from the military, but it didn't happen.

Your opinion [and mine] is that he didn't intend to return, making him a deserter. Though my guess is many closer to the hidden facts agree with our opinion, he was technically AWOL.

Heres a link with some more good stuff including Charlie Daniels who also changed his "tune".

Bowe Bergdahl homecoming party cancelled: Here's how quickly conservatives turned on the POW.

He's supporting his decision but he is also calling him a moron.

Couple questions for recent military...specifically special ops...The media has raved about how clean and efficient that extraction/transfer transpired...I didn't quite see it that way: in review of that video as released...:

1. That video as released served for nothing more than propaganda...did we not have video capability during same exchange? If so...why no release?
2. That pick-up point was a valley...that team to include the Black Hawk was nothing more than a sitting duck:.....In a valley...broad daylight...surrounded by hostile fire power:
3. That extraction team never searched Berdahl until almost next to the bird....if he had been wired...everyone would have died:
Under the circumstances, once back in US control, it would have seemed prudent to have Berdahl...face down, and stripped, and dropping the rags.....well prior to ever being escorted back to BH....
3. It has been said...the extraction team was "at the ready"....it's hard to see what fire power was on board...or overhead...but I thought that exchange apparent less than "at the ready"....
4. Those guys pulled to complete that extraction either have balls bigger than elephants...or knew a lot more than has been discussed...they were sitting ducks...!

Anyone else view that extraction with a slanted eye...or is it me ? Time on the "x" was minimal...however they were in a very hot zone !

That entire operation looks like it was "made for TV"....there were much safer ways to successfully accomplish that mission..I know that...for a fact !

It is even seen by other parts of the GOP as the fringe takes over (//www.city-data.com/forum/polit...-i-joined.html) from the moderates that are labeled RINO's and cast out. They are moving from a party that represented a different view, to the fringes of America. They are becoming the new Know Nothings and Birchers for the modern age, and losing relevance by denying reality itself.
It's a pretty dramatic story ECW, people are going to react dramatically. You apparently disagree?

It's one of the worst cases of character assassination that I've ever seen.

They totally ignore the fact that he's not a deserter, and there's not a lick of evidence proving that he is

Just a few short years ago, they were screaming all over the place about how Obama wasn't doing all to get him back.

Obama gets him back, and now that's not good enough either. I guess we were supposed to give him a psych eval before agreeing to take him back. SMH

And worse, they're complaining that he was exchanged for terrorists...another lie.

Not only are the Taliban NOT terrorists, but the men we released in exchange haven't been convicted of anything. No one had ever heard of these guys until we released them.

The beauty of it all is that just like every other scandal they make up, this one will prove to be just as unfruitful as the others.

They like wasting time I guess. Fine with me.

Thanks for posting this, very interesting.

I too feel like I've gotten whiplash, from watching how an oddball soldier became a hero to beat Obama over the head with and then became a disaster to beat Obama over the head with.

I'm doing my best to be open-minded about those who are reacting differently than I am, but really, "beating Obama over the head" does seem to be the common denominator.

I sensed that too..especially letting him get that close with no check.
The terrorists are known for their human bombs.
