Yes, and that is proof of AGW. Anyone who disagrees is a denier.

This video is terrifying and spectacular at the same time. Hard to deny that something is going on in the Arctic regions after watching this video.
Who said the climate isn't changing?

We learned in grade school that the planet heats up, cools down, expands, contracts, etc. It's why we have lakes, volcanos, earthquakes, valleys, etc. It's also why sometimes the ice melts & falls into the ocean, and why sometimes global warming scientists get stuck in the ice & have to spend a whole winter there like last year.

I never read the books, and stopped watching the TV show after they killed off Sean Bean and Jason Mamoa. It was not intended to be a reference to Game of Thrones, it was merely a statement of fact. All interglacial periods come to an end eventually, and we are in the latter half of the current interglacial period.

When the majority of the world's glaciers start advancing instead of retreating, that will be the time to be very concerned about our future. Our civilization will not likely survive the next period of glaciation. Our species will survive, of course, but hundreds of millions and possibly billions, will die.

We came out of the last period of glaciation with about 5 million human beings world-wide. There are currently 7.125 billion humans on the planet. When the interglacial period ends, and glaciers begin advancing again arable land will be lost, and the carrying capacity of the planet will be severely diminished as ice once again consumes approximately one-third of the planet.

It will not be a pleasant time to be alive.

No worry about the GOT reference, I saw "Winter is coming" and couldn't resist...you saw my green smily.

We should all realize, that same ice sheet, once covered 1/2 of North America.
I don't quite understand this point of view. If a meteor was heading for earth, would you hold a similar view of "Whats the big deal? Meteors have been hitting the earth for billions of years."?

This is a regular tourist type of vista in Alaska. My sister and family have been there and said it looks pretty cool.

I'm guessing all that ice melting into the ocean will cause sea levels to continue rising in exactly the same way it has for the past twenty thousand years.

That would depend on the size of the meteor and the location of its impact. There are some places on this planet that would be significantly improved by the sudden appearance of a smoking crater.

Interesting analogy but I don't think it fits.

If we had enough warning, we might be able to shoot a nuclear warhead at an asteroid to either make it change its course, or blow it up. How do we stop glaciers from calving?

Landlocked glaciers calve as well, but it is advisable to keep one's distance. I recall one touron (Alaskan for "tourist" plus "moron") walked right up to a landlocked glacier near Seward, AK, and it calved about 10,000 tons of ice on his empty little head. As far as I know, he is still there. Nobody is stupid enough to try to dig the touron out.
