Saddam was fully contained in that country. The second invasion was one of the biggest blunders in American foreign policy in a long time. I'm sure I'll be seeing interviews of Rove, Rumsfeld, etc, on TV talking about how it was still the right thing to do. It's unfortunate that the voters never held anyone accountable for this mess.
Oh, there are plenty of people who think Iraq was a worthy cause. It's unbelievable.

In terms of geopolitical blunders, I think Iraq was worse than Vietnam. Although we lost far more soldiers in Vietnam, at least we weren't called upon to provide military support years after our official exit. Maliki recently asked Obama to do airstrikes on the militants. Can you imagine that? Thank god Obama said no.

A lot of us had 20/20 foresight when it came to Iraq.

We did destroy Iraq's oil economy, at least for a while. The only sense in which we were "victorious".
Then your Obama is a liar isn't he -- he said there was a victory in Iraq, that it was now stable and troops could be sent to Afghanistan instead. Obama truly lied.

Oh, please. There's lots of blame to go around. This has been several administrations in the making, and both parties were involved.

It was a lie when W said it, and it was a lie when O said it. And, in a different war, it was a lie when Nixon said it. They all lied for the same reason - most Americans can't face the truth about our reckless warmaking, and won't let go unless they hear this lie.

Millions of people around the world took to the streets to protest the looming Iraq invasion. It's the one thing out of this sorry mess that is even a little positive.

Gotta agree with this. "Peace with honor" is the lie, and it's the only lie the US populace will accept when the country has got into a war under false pretenses in the first place. If it took a lie to get in, it takes a lie to get out.

Yes, there's no education like watching a C-130 being filled with flag-draped coffins. It has a major impact on your thinking, even if you are only 23.

History will not be kind to this man or leftist ideology in this nation..
The Iraq fiasco belongs solely and completely to GWB. Blaming Obama for Bush's follies is like someone walking into a china shop, knocking everything off the shelves, and then pointing the finger of blame at the next guy who steps into the store.

Bush broke Iraq. Bush owns the mess that followed. And to paraphrase you, history will not be kind to W and his merry band of warmongering neocons.

I wonder if our resident arm chair generals would support having the GOP make getting more involved in Iraq a plank in the party's platform for the 2014 and 2016 elections?

Exactly. The Iraq War is the USA's number one foreign policy mistake.
