women giving birth now are not given anesthesia---it's bad for the baby. that's just someone's opinion back then. they didn't need to do anything for them and let them stay on the streets but they took them in.
today women choose not to have anesthesia is their choice. the nuns did it as punishment for being sexual and getting pregnant. the church has done wrong this is a huge example. closing your eyes to it or trying to make out it is not as bad as it was, doesn't change the truth only shows how easily you are swayed by the "goodness" of the church. doing it all for these young unwed girls benefit. what a crock. these nuns were sadistic, and cruel. all in the name of religion.
strange article. just how could the operators contaminate the children with TB and not get it themselves?
It was one of the worst scandals in Canadian history, and remains an embarrassment.
The good fathers killed and sexually molested thousands of children.
My wife took it.................anesthesia. Hey you dump that 8 pounder out it's gonna hurt. She broke her tailbone too. That was our first and we had twins after. Kids are great though. Love every minute with em......although now the xbox and cell phones get in the way. lol
usually a spinal block i used now. that was impossible then. plus millions of women have given birth for millions of years without any pain meds. no poor community could afford them for years anyway.

stop deflecting! your article stated the nuns withheld anesthesia as punishment. you ok with that?

i would not call them good. i think i will investigate before i accept such a sensational story.

so where would have suggested they would have gone? to the streets?

Ehm - your cited article says "denied", doesn't it?
Let's be frank: The Catholic Church in Ireland held considerable power over those who had no choice but to submit to its institutions, and while all power corrupts, the sort of power that comes with the conviction that you're doing no less than God's will appears to corrupt even more so. Add to that a de facto immunity against criminal prosecution and a Church that was very careful to guard its reputation, and you have a recipe for some astonishing little hellholes - an entire bevy of Stanford prison experiments, over decades.
Saying "it wasn't a septic tank, it was just a run-of-the-mill mass grave" doesn't really whitewash that.
