"It’s hard to deny just how poorly Chicago’s public schools are performing when it hits you in the face. Such is the case with Paul Robeson High School’s 2014 prom theme: “This is Are Story.”
....."
"......The average CPS teacher salary is $76,000. The last contract negotiations in 2012 gave CPS teachers 17 percent raises over three years....."
For example, the class size where my parents live is 11:1, but it is 25:1 in Chicago.
It was 42:1 when I went.
This is a management issue.
"Teachers" (snicker) simply do not know how to manage time or people. That is magnified by the fact that most teachers aren't really teacher at all, rather they're people with pieces of paper that says they are, and then they are poorly trained, especially in classroom management skills.
And of course, the unions. So long as unions -- and the pseudo-federal government -- are involved in education, there is no hope.
You lost all of your 1st Level Economic jobs except for oil/gas and timber. Your 2nd Level Economy jobs are fleeing to greener pastures. It's only a few years before your 3rd Level Economy jobs start disappearing. And then your 4th Level Economy jobs will be gone.
Since unions and Liberals are doing everything in their power to ensure you never reach the 5th Level Economy, it looks like you'll be regressing and heading back to subsistence farming.
Have no fear........by that time, Americans should be making $0.75/hour manufacturing cheap consumer goods for export to the 300 Million Chinese Middle Class, and the 300 Million Indian Middle Class and the 300 Million Eastern European Middle Class and the 300 Million sub-Saharan Middle Class.
At least you'll have jobs....

Reason: deleted quoted post
The only way to improve on this is to change the slogan to: "This Be Are Story"
Seriously......soooooo much wrong with this story, and of course, it has to come from Chiraq, where Tinkerbell Emmanuel is trying to wave his magic wand over the whole city and make things better.
This story has been getting a lot of media attention. Too bad not a single journalist bothered to do just a tad of digging into the back story.
The prom name is a tribute to a play " This is Are Story" that coincided with the reopening/ renaming of this school in 1977. In other words, the grammar error was intentional.

HA! I checked for that, but couldn't find anything about it. The reports I read couldn't tell whether this was intentional or not.

The only thing I could find online is the Wikipedia entry. Which was edited today to include information about the supposed "play".
I'm not sure it's really the teachers' fault. Chicago teacher have larger class sizes and have to deal with alot more chaos than the suburban teachers. For example, the class size where my parents live is 11:1, but it is 25:1 in Chicago.
It's not the teacher's fault? If we can't hold teachers accountable for their students learning, then why do we even have teachers?
